Almost four years ago, we drove to a woman’s home in Lake Geneva to meet Chloe for the first time. We hadn’t planned on getting a dog just yet, in fact, we were yet to be married and with the wedding one month away, the timing was questionable at best. During a long drive to Minnesota, I sat on Petfinder until I saw Chloe’s little picture and I put in our application over my old Nokia phone and submitted before we had even arrived. When we met her, we talked to her foster mama quite a bit and we just loved how she was open to temporarily offering up her space to these dogs in need. I knew that someday I hoped we would have a space to do the same and now we do!

Many of you know our love for puppies, especially rescue pups so it’s no surprise that on Sunday night we picked up the next man to join our little unruly bunch temporarily. Max is joining our little family from Houston, Texas where he was likely found homeless roaming the streets and ended up in a Texas shelter. He was on death row until someone saved his life and he made the trip via plane this past weekend arriving in Chicago and driving into Wisconsin! Sunday night we got a message about taking him in for a bit and after seeing his sweet little face, we couldn’t say no. Max is a dachshund puppy, probably around 4 months old, and will be a small little fella probably weighing in no more than 25 lbs. He is the sweetest cuddler, sleeps like a champ (even through crazy Wisconsin storms) and loves to hoard toys.

It’s always a little crazy when we bring a new pup into the house (hello, Chloe and Tucker are so not having it) but this little guy had the smoothest transition so far. Before bed, Max and Chloe were chasing each other around, hiding under the bed, and taking turns with toys. I think she secretly loves when a playful pup comes into the mix because let’s be honest, this house is hers and we just live here, so Max, welcome to Chloe’s domain. Last night as he fell asleep in my arms, snoring in bed with our crazy brood, I was so thankful that if even for a  night, he felt loved and safe. Fostering is so rewarding, we get to love on these little babies until their find their forever homes. (For some it can mean a night or two at the Kutcher hotel and for others it can be months before their perfect family comes into their lives!) Max’s face makes you melt and this little bugger already has a few applications in for him, so we are expecting a short visit with this one but regardless, we love him so much!
