“What would you do if you had no fear of failure or rejection?” she asked in an Instagram post. I kept reading…
“When you ask yourself that question, you’ll likely realize how FEAR is holding you back… Maybe you didn’t apply for a job you really wanted, or you didn’t speak up in a meeting because you were afraid of looking foolish. Whatever the case may be, we’ve all been there. But what if I told you that changing your relationship with rejection could completely transform your life?”
My guest today, Jamie Kern Lima, has done just that: created a life full of abundance, fulfillment, and joy by letting go of fear, embracing the power of ‘no’, and freeing herself from self-imposed limitations. Her successful career is definitely proof of this!
Jamie is a New York Times bestselling author, guest teacher of the Life You Want class live with Oprah Winfrey, and on the Forbes America’s Richest Self-Made Women list. She’s also the founder of IT Cosmetics, a company she started in her living room and grew to the largest luxury makeup brand in the country, which she later sold to L’Oréal in a billion-dollar deal.
Jamie has been a Denny’s waitress, a struggling entrepreneur, lived a life-long journey of rejections, and has battled her way through years of self-doubt, body-doubt, and God-doubt. She was given away at birth, adopted, and has been on a journey of learning to believe she’s here with purpose, on purpose and for a purpose and is worthy, lovable and enough.
Today, we’re discussing how you can truly believe you are enough, and how you can transform your life just like she has by building your belief so high that no matter what challenges arise, you push forward with the unshakable certainty that your dream is already on its way to you.
Jamie’s new book, WORTHY, is out NOW and you can get it wherever books are sold or at worthybook.com. Without further ado, let’s dive in to my conversation with Jamie!
How Our Weight Can Impact Our Self Worth
Jamie and I have known each other for over five years, and in that time, we have discussed a wide range of topics. But one topic that we had never openly discussed was weight and self-worth.
As I read through Jamie’s book, I was shocked to discover that this was a topic that had deeply impacted her life, and I knew we had to address it in our conversation.
Jamie shared with me the profound impact that believing the lie that our weight determines our worth can have on every aspect of our lives. From our relationships to our careers, this belief can hold us back and prevent us from fully embracing our true potential.
Jamie revealed that over 80% of girls and women opt out of meaningful activities because they don’t like how they look, and this statistic is a stark reminder of the power that this lie holds over us.
She said, “When we believe the lie that our weight determines our worth, it impacts every area of our life, from our business, to our relationships, to our joy.”
So, how do we stop believing that lie? We improve our self-worth.
The Difference Between Self-Confidence and Self-Worth
In her book, Jamie explores the concept of self-confidence versus self-worth, and how they are often mistakenly interchanged. Self-confidence, she explains, is based on external factors and can fluctuate depending on our circumstances.
On the other hand, self-worth is an internal knowing that we are worthy of love and belonging exactly as we are. It is a rock-solid foundation that becomes our ceiling in every area of our lives.
Jamie shared her personal journey of achieving incredible success with her billion-dollar business, IT Cosmetics, and yet still feeling like something was missing.
She realized that she had built self-confidence along the way, but her self-worth was lacking.
This realization led her on a quest to understand the difference between the two and to build her self-worth by breaking free from the cycle of seeking external validation!
How To Believe You Are WORTHY
One of the most powerful moments Jamie shared was her experience of meeting her childhood hero, Oprah Winfrey. Despite achieving so much success, Jamie waited four years to call Oprah after she had given her phone number.
It was during those four years that Jamie realized she didn’t believe she was worthy of being Oprah’s friend. This revelation prompted her to work on building her self-worth and ultimately led to a deep friendship with Oprah.
Throughout our conversation, Jamie emphasized the importance of building self-worth and how it can transform our lives.
She encourages us to recognize the ways in which low self-worth may be holding us back and to take steps to unlearn the lies that have been ingrained in us.
Jamie’s new book, WORTHY, provides 20 (yes, 20!) tools to help readers build their self-worth and break free from the limitations it imposes.
As I reflect on my conversation with Jamie, I am struck by the power of self-worth and its impact on our lives. It is a journey that requires introspection, self-reflection, and a willingness to challenge the beliefs that have held us back. But the rewards are immeasurable. When we believe in our own worthiness, we become more ambitious, more fearless, and more fulfilled.
I encourage everyone to pick up a copy of WORTHY and embark on their own journey of self-discovery and self-worth. Let’s break free from the lies that have held us back and embrace the truth that we are worthy of love, success, and happiness exactly as we are!
Together, let’s create a world where no one is left behind in knowing their worth.
