We walked into the room where hairspray touched your nose, champagne bottles were popped, and the girls were laughing in their matching robes. Jenna walked in with the biggest smile on her face and a sense of utter and complete calmness that isn’t normal on a wedding day. If only I knew then that this would be exemplary of what the day would be: smooth, relaxed, and the real deal. Here’s the thing, I think so many of us put a lot of pressure on wedding days. We expect everyone to cry, we think the emotions will be at all time high, and we assume that there has to be stress and nerves and jitters. But if I’ve learned anything after 100+ weddings, it’s this: expect the unexpected!
What did I notice the most? The comfort and Cody and Jenna had. It wasn’t contrived, forced, or overly anything – in fact, it was just pure comfort. They are the best of friends and everyone knows that life is better with your best friend. Throughout the day I would catch Cody staring at his bride, he said (more than once) this was Jenna’s day, but not in a way of saying she ran the show, more in a way of saying, “Hey, I really love this girl, and I’m in for whatever it is she wants.” Well Cody, it was your day too, because I watched as your family celebrated you, as they congratulated you, and as they threw back a shot or two in your honor!
Here’s my biggest takeaway: marry someone you want to do life with, the every day normal life and the life that involves a party for 200 of your closet friends and family. Hire vendors you trust and let them work their magic, the team Jenna and Cody had for their day was like a well oiled, passionate machine. We all worked seamlessly together in an effort to make their day “perfect” and here’s the best news: it was. It was flawless, the talent was showcased all over the ballroom. Exceptional doesn’t quite cut it – their day was comfort and to me, that speaks volumes.
