I’ve changed so much in the last 5 years, it’s almost laughable. Some of the things I swore I’d never do, I’m doing today… And a lot of the things I considered absolutes about who I was have evolved so much.

Today, I’m breaking down the 5 ways I couldn’t have predicted I would change over the past 5 years with my friend and teammate Marisa.

Let’s take a trip down memory lane with me… I bet these 5 changes will surprise you!

1. Shifting From Penny-Pinching To Investing

In the early days, we were very cautious with our finances and had a bootstrapped mentality. We tracked every tool and were hesitant to invest in new ones. But as the business grew, we realized the importance of investing in the right tools and resources.

We shifted our mindset and became more open to trying new things and taking calculated risks. It has allowed us to scale and grow in ways we never thought possible. Marisa and I always say that if we can spend money to get the right people doing the right roles and we can tie those efforts to real results, we’ll pay all day!

2. Time-Blocking And Communicating

Communication has been a significant area of growth for our team over the last 5 years. In the beginning, we butted heads and struggled to find common ground. But over time, we have developed a strong bond and have become better at understanding each other’s communication styles.

We now have open and honest conversations, and we recover quickly from any misunderstandings. Our team culture is built on trust and collaboration, and it has made a huge difference in our success.

We even block intentional time for bi-weekly team calls, which I was SO averse to just a few years ago… Now, I look forward to communicating with each of my team members on these calls!

3. Having No Real Systems

When Marisa joined the team five years ago, I was in a state of overwhelm and had no idea where to begin. But Marisa brought in her expertise in project management and introduced me to the concept of having a project management system. It was a game-changer!

We implemented Monday.com and it has completely revolutionized the way we work.

From organizing tasks to managing the team, having a system in place has increased our efficiency and productivity!

4. More Ease, Less Urgency

One of the most significant shifts has been in our approach to launching. In the early days, launching felt stressful and overwhelming. We had a sense of urgency and scarcity around it. But now, we approach launching (and really everything in our business) with ease and fun.

We have learned to let go of perfectionism and embrace the process. We understand that not everything will go according to plan, and that’s okay. We have created a team culture that allows us to recover quickly and learn from our experiences.

5. Informing And Inviting The Team Into My Vision

I have personally grown in my ability to prioritize, explain, and execute ideas. As a visionary, I am constantly coming up with new ideas, but Marisa has helped me hone in on the most important ones and execute them effectively.

She has taught me the importance of timing and has helped me become more intentional in my decision-making, especially when it involves getting a buy-in from the rest of the team which, in turn, helps us get the results we want!

Now It’s Your Turn To Reflect

Reflecting on these changes has been a powerful reminder of how far we’ve come. It’s a testament to the growth and evolution that is possible when you have the right team and mindset. I am so proud of the progress we have made and excited for what the future holds.

If you’re a business owner, I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on your own journey. Look at the ways you have transformed and grown, and celebrate your accomplishments.

And if there are areas where you still have room to grow, embrace the opportunity for further development. Remember: change is a constant in business, and it’s through growth and adaptation that we continue to thrive.

Here’s to the next five years of growth, transformation, and success!
