They always say, if you want to know something about weddings, ask the photographers. As one of the only vendors that is a part of the wedding day from start to finish, we have witnessed it all. Someday, I should write a book about my rendezvous in the wedding industry but the touching moments spend with families to the stressful moments of anticipation, it’s all happened and I’ve been there. This year, some incredible new trends have emerged and I have landed in photographer heaven! I’ve been thinking about the trends of the season and am entirely excited to share what’s new in the wedding industry (and some of these might surprise you!)

1.) Strapless dresses are on their way out: Let me be the first to say, three years ago when I was a bride, I wore a strapless dress. I was worried about armpit fat all day and wore this amazing bustier thing to keep it up. Needless to say, I am kind of wishing I would have rethought my own dress option now that I am seeing all of these amazing dresses that come complete with straps (usually either lace or illusion mesh!) I am dying over this new trend and am so happy that brides are able to find stylish dresses that offer a little more support and less armpit fat fear!

2.) Mismatched bridesmaid dresses are in: We have all heard a bride proclaim, “you can so wear this dress again” and to give them credit, at least they are trying. (I know I tried with my girl’s Jcrew dresses!) The new trend of mismatched dresses that are tied together in a color scheme are something that I am crazy about. Not only are the gals happy to pick out a dress they might actually wear again, they are able to pick a frock that fits their body and suits their taste! I love the way this trend photographs and I love the ease of the style, it’s perfectly relaxed and a complimentary way to approach the bridesmaid dress challenge!

3.) First looks, first looks, first looks: This season it is all about first looks, whether it is between the bride and the groom, the bride and her bridesmaids, the bride and her father… it’s so fun to capture those moments when seeing one another for the first time! Although they aren’t always perfectly staged, watching people see my girls as a bride for the first time is something that always takes my breath away and it’s something that I love. The big reveal (regardless of who it is with) is something that is always a fun part of the wedding day, hey, you only get to be a bride once! Savor it!

4.) Gold is in: Okay, so I used to not be a fan of gold (this is like three years ago, don’t judge) I am now gold obsessed! So many couples are choosing gold as an accent color for their day and I am totally smitten. It’s the perfect touch of metallic and a warm way to add a little color to your wedding day (not to mention it goes so well with so many color schemes!) A little gold goes a long way from shoes to jewelry, seating arrangements to chargers, candles to bouquet accents! I think you should go for the gold, but seriously, just do it!

5.) Chairs, chairs, chairs: I know this is crazy and you might totally think I have lost my mind but chairs make a huge difference. Chairs? Yes, chairs. Chiavari chairs are showing up at so many wedding because brides are catching on to the importance of pretty chairs. Okay, yes, it sounds wild but pretty seating allows your space to feel open, inviting, and it accentuates all of the gorgeous details you worked so hard on curating. When you visit a venue, take note of their available chairs. Chances are you will either end up covering them up or renting your own, it entirely changes a space. Just look at those photos if you think I am totally crazy!

Do you think gold might look really outdated in pictures soon? I’m obsessed with gold but want my wedding to look and feel timeless! Thoughts?
