GOAL DIGGER

Harnessing Your Skills To Craft Your DREAM Job

December 4, 2017

Jenna Kutcher talks with her first ever employee Caitlyn all about harnessing your skills to craft your dream job on the Goal Digger podcast.

Caitlyn Jeffery is my go-to gal and the first lady I ever hired. She is an absolute powerhouse of a woman and true do-it-all-er. A mom, wife, and the Jenna Kutcher brand manager, she used to own her own business as a virtual assistant until she went full time for my team. Since joining my team she has transitioned from email inbox support to podcast supporter all the way to course content and logistic management. Remember when I said she was a do-it-all-er? I MEANT IT!

But even though she can do it all, doesn’t mean she should- which is why she is the perfect person to chat with about using your specific strengths to capitalize on her role. If you are someone feeling stagnant in your work or career, this episode is for you.

FORGET THE TITLE; DO SOME SOUL SEARCHIN’:

Stop letting your titles like “manager”, “assistant”, “executive” define who you are. “It’s easy to wrap yourself in your title”, but you need to really look at who you are at your core when you take away your title. “Things change, circumstances change, and who you are at your core- is what your focus should be on your life… and your business as well!”.  A title can become a “mask” if we let it– the first step is to peel back a layer and really look at yourself.

FOCUS ON YOUR BEST, GET RID OF THE STRESS:

Slow down and really boil down what lights your fire– your strengths, your passions, your natural gifts. Focusing on your strongest attributes allows you to capitalize on them and grow in ways you never imagined. But, going off of that, you also need to release the things that don’t ignite your fire. Ask yourself: “I know I can do this– but is this how my time is the best spent?”. If the answer is no, that you are not using your skills to their best ability, consider outsourcing or delegating. In an ideal world, your job is focusing on “what are the things that only I can do?” Whether that is calligraphy, podcast interviews, computer programing, or whatever, focus on the skills that set you apart.

LET THE MAGIC HAPPEN:

To summarize this episode: there is absolutely no value in playing small or wasting time on your weaknesses. When you truly assess yourself, your gifts, your passions- and chase them, good things WILL happen. Free yourself up from complacency, and open yourself up to the magic of being fully, and genuinely alive in your work.

“When you feel uncomfortable– Growth it coming. You are on the cusp of something great.”
