That Time I Flew to NYC and I Shouldn’t Have

Life is either an adventure…. or nothing at all, said Helen Keller. Well, I choose adventures – most of the time.

I got an email a few weeks back from one of the head marketing people at Aerie (a brand I absolutely adore!) asking me to hop on a call for some exciting news. Ten minutes later, they told me they wanted to fly me out to New York for an event.

Wait, what?  Yeah.

I’ll be honest, a trip to New York would have left me jumping up and down and crying happy tears even a few years ago, but I sat there and had to really think about it. Was I willing to give up more time with Drew? Was I willing to go to another city, hop on another plane, and take another taxi by myself?

So instead of saying, “Yes.” I thought about how I could change things up. A few text messages later, we were making this a “team” trip.

Now let me take you back a few months ago (yes, months.) I was that girl who was white knuckling her business. I had my grip so tight on every aspect of it, thinking that no one under the sun could care for it the way I do and that since my business was branded around ME, I had to touch every little thing.

But then, we had our miscarriage.

I found myself wanting to lay on the couch and cry.

I didn’t care about Instagram, had no inspiration to blog, and forget about emails.

I realized that I needed to change, I needed help. Losing our baby was the catalyst I needed to show me that I couldn’t do it all, be everything for everyone.

Fast forward to today, I am running through the airport with two brunette girls, laughing as nearly miss a flight, bellying up to the table to enjoy a Bloody Mary while we wait for our plane to get fixed, and embracing the messy travel (that always seems to happen to me.)

I never considered myself a boss (though I occasionally use the term: girlboss.)

But now I have help. I’m the Oreo filling as the blondie with my brunettes.

Courtney and Caitlyn haven’t just changed my business, they’ve changed my life.

So what better way than to celebrate, the three of us in New York City. (And a trip where we literally arrive in the city and find out that my event wasn’t THIS week, it’s actually NEXT week, which means in 7 days, I’ll be back on a plane, flying here again… yeah, like I said, it’s the Jenna effect and we laughed for a good hour over my misfortune and then $100 cab ride to figure out where we were going to stay while were here when we weren’t actually supposed to be here.)

Life is an adventure my friends, I’ll choose that over nothing, every single time.

And I’ll choose in sharing that adventure over experiencing things alone.

How can you get help? How could you bring a “team” into your life?

Don’t wait for life to show you that you NEED it, get started today.

This little empire? It’s not just about me anymore, it’s so much more.
