We were packing our bags and getting ready for our vacation. Of course I had my camera gear charging in hopes of capturing a few memories from our trip. The day before we left I got a message from a fellow photographer in Minnesota, her assistant was also vacationing in St. Lucia and had happened to get engaged the day before when her boyfriend got down on one knee on a cliff at sunset. She knew how important photography was to them and knew we were planning a leisure trip, but she just wanted to reach out in case we could connect so I could help them start off their engaged love story with a few images on the beaches where their engagement happened. I, of course, said yes. I knew that if that were me, I would want a few nice photos to document the trip and I knew that it would mean the world to me to remember such an amazing adventure that all started on the beaches of beautiful St. Lucia. I got in touch with Kaylin, introduced myself, told her I would be in town and if she and Brian wanted to swing by our resort, I would be happy to take a few images of them! They hopped on a Sandal’s shuttle bus and made their way over to our beautiful beachy resort just in time for the sun to set over the waves.
We met by the pool, grabbed a pina colada, talked about their love story and how everything had unfolded. Brian and Kaylin and are amazing, both on their own but even more so when they are together. They are smitten, just watching the way she giggled with him and the way he would look at her, I knew they had something great going on. Drew came along as I shot some photos at sunset, drinks in hand. We laughed, talked life, engagements, photography. It is always an honor to photograph fellow photographers and the fact that we were first meeting on vacation in a beautiful place was just the icing on the cake. I am so thankful that Amanda connected us, so thankful that I got to help them celebrate such an exciting time in their lives, and I’d be lying if I said I was sad that I worked while on vacation because these images are proof enough that it was one of the better decisions of the trip! Cheers, Kaylin and Brian! I’m drinking a margarita and thinking of those sunny beaches while the snow is flying outside of my window. I think we should head back next year and do it all over again, deal?
