We spent his 29th birthday on a 20 hour, overnight adventure to get home. Three flights, two lay overs, one delay later, we were on the road back to home. The funny thing? I wasn’t too sad to be heading back after such an incredible time in Hawaii. You know you’re life is blessed when you aren’t dreading reality (because let’s be honest, reality looks pretty wonderful these days.) We sat on the couch, ate mac and cheese, caught up on our DVR, and snuggled the pups (who we’d like to think missed us) and kind of just sighed – because this life we are living, it’s good, really good. When I think of this blog and our lives and how we are living them on it, I am grateful to have a way to document our story, share our love, and hopefully someday have a tangible thing to look back on and say, “remember when?”
While I’d love to sit here and brag about this man paragraph after paragraph, I’ll tell you this: everyday I text him things I am grateful for, every night before we go to bed we pray and share three blessings of the day (usually they include the pups), and while I could talk up this hunk and how thankful I am for him, I’d rather do it next to him while on the couch all stretched out and breathing deep. Marriage is a beautiful thing, it can be messy, frustrating, but so, so wonderful. It’s saying, “hey, I’m a mess, I’m imperfect, and I’ll never, ever fit that mold of perfection but I think I’d like to wake up with you and do life with you every day. I’ll promise to love you at your best and your worst all the same and I promise to fill up your water cup on your nightstand when you forget.”
Getting back to life, back to reality with the birthday boy is a blessing. I truly think we take each day as a gift and really use that invitation to live our lives to the fullest. As Drew approaches year thirty with each passing day, I am convinced that this trip around the sun will be the best one yet. There’s so much I love about him (that can’t be summed up in a silly blog post) but I’ll give you a few reasons why he deserves celebrating: he works his hiney off (and it’s a nice hiney!), he loves hard, he is the best friend, he is a softie when it comes to the pups, he loves to vacuum, prefers to cook, and is always cleaning up after my messes, he puts up with my mood swings, never tells me I can’t do something, and encourages me to chase my dreams so that my soul always shines. Happy birthday babe, cheers to another year of life waking up by your side, I am so thankful you chose me so long ago and continue to choose me every single day.
