Hiring Your First Team Member
Question from Beck, Martinsburg, WV: When you scale your business and start growing your team, who is the best team member to hire first?
Hiring can feel intimidating, but the best place to start is with a virtual assistant (VA). A VA helps you offload repetitive tasks like email management, scheduling, and bookkeeping, allowing you to focus on the deep work that moves your business forward. Even if you’re not ready to hire yet, start documenting the tasks you do repeatedly—this will make handing them off much easier when the time comes!
Scaling Beyond a 1:1 Business Model
Question from Karen, Stowe, VT: How do you stop trading time for money when your secret ingredient is in the one-to-one relationship?
If your business thrives on one-to-one relationships (like Pilates instruction, coaching, or consulting), consider creating digital offerings that complement your work. This could be a 7-day challenge, a membership site, or an online course that shares your methodology. The one-on-one element can remain your premium service while your digital offerings provide value at a more accessible level.
My Updated Health Routine
Question from Brooke, St. Louis, MO: What, if anything, has changed in your health routine? Anything new you’re trying or loving? Anything you’ve stopped doing?
Lately, I’ve been prioritizing consistency. I walk on my treadmill daily (often while voice-memoing friends or watching reality TV), lift weights, and do P-Volv workouts. New to my routine? Mouth taping at night for better sleep—yes, it sounds weird, but it’s been a game-changer! One thing I’ve let slip? Meditation—I’m working on bringing it back.
Handling Negative Feedback
Question from Melissa, Saukville, WI: How do you handle negative feedback or criticism about your podcast?
Receiving criticism can be tough, but I always ask myself: Is there something constructive I can take away from this? If the feedback helps me improve, I take note. If it’s just negativity, I remind myself of Mel Robbins’ Let Them theory—let them misunderstand you, let them doubt you, and keep creating anyway.
Setting Boundaries During Maternity Leave
Question from Allison, Colorado Springs, CO: How did you set boundaries while on maternity leave to honor time with your family while staying creative in your business?
I prepared three months’ worth of content in advance so I could fully step away. Having zero pressure to work gave me the freedom to create only if I felt inspired. The key is setting clear expectations for your team and leaving space for both rest and creativity.
Inside a Mastermind Experience
Question from Katie, Kansas City, MO: What does a mastermind actually look like? What kinds of conversations are happening?
Masterminds typically last two to three days and involve hot seats (where each participant gets targeted feedback on a challenge), expert presentations, and deep networking. Some of the most valuable conversations happen outside the structured sessions—over dinner, in the hotel lobby, or even in impromptu group brainstorms!
How Motherhood Changed My Business Priorities
Question from Erin, Hudson Valley, NY: What has changed in how you run your business since becoming a mom?
I’ve softened my approach—success isn’t about constant growth anymore. My business follows a rinse-and-repeat model, allowing me more peace and flexibility. My focus is on sustainable growth, not just bigger numbers every year.
Selling Multiple Bite-Sized Courses
Question from Lucy, Edmond, OK: How do you sell several bite-sized courses without overwhelming your audience?
Think about a value ladder—a clear pathway from entry-level to premium offers. You can structure courses to build on each other (Step A leads to Step B), or launch each one separately but with strong messaging about who each course is for. Creating a quiz or a simple “Which Course Is Right for You?” guide can also help your audience make confident decisions.
Getting Buy-In for a Big Vision
Question from Jennifer, Hood River, OR: How do you get people to believe in your big vision when they don’t immediately understand it?
It’s not their job to understand your vision—it’s yours to pursue it. Instead of wasting energy convincing doubters, focus on finding the right people who do get it. Share your passion with those who are genuinely interested, and remember that some people won’t see the full picture until you’ve already built it.
