Drew and I say three things we are thankful for every night. Some nights we get creative and say things we have never mentioned before and some nights we groggily list off a few things that are common themes to our blessings. Either way, it’s something that I love and it makes me stop and reflect on the little things, even when we are dead tired and struggling to keep our eyes open. There is something so simple but amazing about giving thanks, recognizing that life is precious, God is good, and we are incredibly blessed. On challenging days I remind myself to choose day, on great days, I remind myself to give thanks. So in lieu of both of those, let’s just talk about a few fun things that make my pretty little world a bit prettier.
Today I am listing five little things (since we all know that I am an overachiever) that I am thankful for; I am omitting the common ones that are always true and trying to think outside of the box… bear with me, people, I am not sure what is going to come out of my mouth.
1.) Fall Breezes: I am obsessed with open windows and cool breezes, nothing in this world makes me happier than to wake up to fresh air, birds chirping, and a cool breeze that makes getting out of bed that much harder.
2.) Empty Inboxes: I am that weird kind of Type A where an overfull email inbox gives me hives, it’s like this never ending battle to stay on top of it and nothing makes me happier than ending the day with a little (O) next to my inbox. It helps me to relax…
3.) Pumpkin Ale: Yea, I am sure you thought I was going to say Pumpkin Spiced Latte’s but every other girl on the planet already talked about those so instead, I am thankful for Pumpkin Beer – let’s be honest, it trumps a latte and is ridiculously delicious… if you have yet to try it. You need to.
4.) Bed: We somehow survived our first two years of marriage in an old full size bed from college, when we finally bought our home we invested in a king size bed and it has been the best money spent. We sleep like babies, sprawl out, and love crawling into it at night.
5.) Unruly Hair: I have the weirdest hair texture – it’s super fine but super thick and gets all sorts of curly when wet. Lately I have been embracing my natural hair texture and just letting it do it’s thing, it’s been kind of wild but kind of fun and it’s just so… me.
So, there you have it. A peek into what our nights look like before we lay our heads on our pillows… we talk about five things we are thankful for and nothing is off limits (obviously since I just listed beer, email, and hair in one shot.) Challenge yourself this month to get in the habit of giving thanks, it seriously makes your world a happier place and helps you to see the little ordinary things as blessings.
