It’s a new month (um, hey August) and a Monday and man, I am in love with the idea of a fresh start. There is something so utterly refreshing about taking a deep breath and embarking on something new. This year has been a crazy one, one that I am so proud to have lived because I truly feel that this year is a reflection on the fact that I am practicing what I have been preaching all along and have taken some giant strides to find some balance. When I look back at these last few months I see adventures in Europe with my mom and sister, time spent at the lake with Drew and my family, weekends with friends, days spent at the gym, weekends shooting weddings and time spent traveling and doing the things I love.
At the beginning of this year I kept saying “this is my year” and although at the time I wasn’t sure what that meant or held, it truly has been a year that makes me weak in the knees and curled up on the couch (hello, exhaustion) but in the best possible way. Fresh starts are important to life. They give us a chance to set some goals, to evaluate where we are at, to set ourselves up for success and to really establish what we want the next week or month or year to hold for us. Since this is a dual fresh start, I want to encourage you all to take a step back. Summer is almost over (don’t cry, it’s crazy, I know.) What were the things you wanted to do this summer? Visit your grandparents? Send letters in the mail to your friends? Run a few miles each week? Start that new diet? Read that new book? Have you done those things? No, seriously? Let’s stop telling everyone how busy we are, how we are too busy, and let’s start prioritizing the time we have. We all have the same amount of hours in the day as Beyonce, friends. Let’s rock each of the 24 hours and fill them with the things that make us come fully alive.
I’ve found this year that we have enough time for the things that are important to us. I’ve learned that if we don’t prioritize, the busy will always win. I’ve practiced disconnecting from technology and reconnecting with live moments and relationships. I’ve said no to work and yes to travel. But most of all, I’ve remembered time and time again that time isn’t money, time is life and I want to live the fullest life possible. We all have a fresh start, it’s waiting for us to seize it. What will you do with this new day/week/month? How will you fill your time? How will you fill your life? Today, my friends, is a fresh start you should take. The world really is need of more people who have come fully alive, so take today as a chance to chase just that (and eat some Mac and Cheese too, because we all know it’s Mac and Cheese Monday!)
