Have you ever looked around your home and had a “Daenerys from season 8 Game of Thrones” moment and thought, burn it all? No? Oh, okay… yeah totally, me either… But I WILL say — with two young kids and a work-from-home situation — dang is it easy to accumulate STUFF over time. So when the overwhelming feeling of “I must clear out the clutter, and I must do it now” kicks in, I know how tempting it is to just trash the old and bring in the new.
Especially if you suddenly find yourself on a “clean product” kick.
Look, I get it. I’ve seen the power of swapping clean home and beauty products for my old staples — they work just as well (or even better) and are made with ingredients that won’t harm my health or family. When I slowly started learning more about the chemicals inside of our every day products like make up and cleaning solutions and how they can impact things like our hormones, I was tempted to throw all my old stuff in the trash can and just start fresh.
I get it, it’s easy to want to toss it all as you scan your items on the “Think Dirty” app, but instead, I’d urge you to take your time and only replace items with cleaner options when you run out of the old. It’s a slower yet more affordable and sustainable way to make the switch to natural products for your home and lifestyle (and honestly, way less overwhelming!) Why to use natural home & beauty products
From cleaning products to makeup and toiletries, so many big-name companies that you can pick up from Target or the drugstore are teeming with harmful chemicals and hormone disruptors. Certain dyes, fragrances, preservatives, and compounds are actually really unsafe for human use, some even proved to lead to cancer, reproductive issues, and more health problems (source).
I’ve shared before, but after back-to-back miscarriages, my personal products were one thing I wanted to clean up so I could feel confident they were safe to use and weren’t diminishing my health. Over the years, I’ve found some truly incredible brands that are safe, efficacious, and most importantly, made with ingredients that support my family’s health instead of harming it!
5 clean products to easily swap in next time you’re empty
Here are 5 of the easiest lifestyle product swaps you can make next time you have an empty so that you can feel good about the products you use on your body and in your home, too.
I can’t tell you how many natural makeup brands I’ve tried and couldn’t stand. They either didn’t work as well, cost way too much money, or just weren’t as good as my old (albeit, toxin-filled) stuff.
That is, until I found this brand. I swear, their foundation is LIFE CHANGING. That sounds hilarious and not true, but it feels like that smooth airbrush finish and all of the makeup feels more like skincare than thick or heavy makeup. This is light, it lasts, and it’s buildable coverage (aka the trifecta). This makeup is a game changer, and one bottle lasts for months upon months. I highly recommend the primer + foundation duo. The bronzer, brow pencil, neutral eyeshadow palette, and highlighter are also premium! I swear by it and have converted so many people.
I’ve been the biggest fan of this non-toxic (and woman-founded!) skincare brand for years and years… IYKYK! If I were just starting out and switching over to new skincare, I would get the oil cleanser (which will forever change how you look at cleaning your skin), the everything spray (can be used as a toner and helps with irritation/breakouts), and a serum if you can swing it. My fave is the clarifying serum, and I swear it healed so much of my skin and hormonal acne. I’ve been using these products for many years now, and still feel like every night is a spa. The ingredients are beautiful and even SMELL lovely and natural.

Don’t knock it ‘til you try it! I know I know, I was skeptical, too, but honestly, this is a biggie and a really easy place to swap. I’m trying to get Drew to swap because the dude loves an aggressive antiperspirant swipe, and so I get how this one can feel tricky but it’s so necessary. Most traditional deodorants/antiperspirants have parabens, triclosan, phthalates, propylene glycol, and aluminum in them which have been linked to serious health problems like cancer and fertility issues (source). If you’ve tried other ones in the past and they didn’t work, this is your solution. It DOES take a tiny bit of time for your body to adjust — and you’ll find you need LESS product than traditional ones, so just one little swipe goes a long way. I love the lavender for everyday and the charcoal for workouts.

It is SCARY to look at some of the most popular cleaning products’ ingredient lists. When I made the move to a natural alternative, I was skeptical we’d find something that worked just as well. But this brand is exceptional, and I am fascinated that you can literally use their cleaning solutions on things from counters and bathrooms to even cleaning kids’ scrapes and rinsing fruits and veggies. How wild is that!? Like what cleaner is safe in THAT way?
It’s amazing and it feels so good spraying everything down and knowing that it’s okay if the baby crawls in that spot or if Coco eats right off of the table. With their starter kit, they send you one bottle of concentrate that you mix with different measurements of water in separate bottles to then use as a multipurpose spray, glass cleaner, bathroom cleaner, even laundry detergent, and MORE. They also include an insanely good stain remover that you can use on everything from clothing stains to scrubbing shower tiles!
There are a lot of recalls happening lately with aerosol dry shampoos, so considering an option that isn’t a spray and that is made with natural ingredients could be a smart move if you like to go a few days between washes. (Guilty!) This one is THE BEST — and I love that they have dark hair and light hair options! You sprinkle it onto your scalp and rub it in with your fingers, and it leaves your hair looking freshly washed and even gives it some texture and volume.
From your head to your toes (and your home, too), there are so many simple ways to swap in cleaner home and beauty products without breaking the bank or overhauling everything at once. These are the products and brands I’ve fallen in love with, but I’d love to hear yours, too! Drop a clean lifestyle product in a comment below so we can all get even more ideas.
