“the longest journey begins with a single step, not with a turn of the ignition key.”
yesterday i took a day for me. i sat down at a quaint coffee shop with only a book, a pad of paper, and a pen. i started writing, stopped thinking about my handwriting and just let the words flow. i wrote down dreams, goals, lists, ideas, ambitions. i allowed myself to let go of perfection and to start dreaming. i thought about the next year, where i want to be, how i want to get there, what i plan to do. i sipped a coconut latte and at the corner table i allowed my mind to take me to places i only dream of going. call it what you will, but dang, it was certainly eye opening.
last night we took our nightly walk with our pup, this time we took a different path and ended up browsing through a car lot. i was blessed to get a “new” car earlier this summer when my old college wheels decided they weren’t going to put up with my wear and tear, ever since, drew has been itching to upgrade his college car! his little honda was more than good to us, but diligent saving over the past year allowed us to pay upright for our new wheels and enjoy the ownership feeling like proud new parents. so we walked the lot with chloe in tow and one of the first cars we saw ended up came home with us. it all happened kind of fast, as we unloaded our items (and memories) from his old green honda and put them in a shiny new civic. call us crazy, but it was a little sentimental! that car took us on our first dates, drove us home to minnesota, had eyeliner “i love yous” on the rear view mirror, and dreams written down saved in the glove box. but as life happens, i guess we were on to bigger and better things! now our garage looks like a honda mob with two black shiny cars and two very proud owners. i can’t deny the feeling of pride seeing drew drive off in his new this morning…
we will take the car on a statewide tour this weekend from milwaukee to st. paul for a wedding filled extravaganza, sounds like the perfect opportunity to start new memories on the road. i can’t wait to capture love and see my siblings, i’ve missed those weirdos!
on a fun note, leigh ann + patrick’s engagement session is featured over on A Northwoods Wedding blog this AM, go check it out!
