The other night I was out to dinner with a few girlfriends. We were eating pasta and drinking martinis and we started talking about photography and how so often we don’t get timeless portraits taken like they used to back in the day. You know, those timeless black and white photographs that you want to cling to because the subject of them looks so perfect and relaxed and beautiful. Well, beyond our grad photos and our wedding days, there really isn’t a need to get photographed until you have children and for some of us, that could be many years or never. I talked about how having a nice photo of yourself is important and over wine we started on the subject of self love and body image.
We talked about the things we loved about our bodies, the things we weren’t so fond of, and the things we often hate about ourselves in photographs. We remembered comments people had made about us in the past and we put our insecurities on the table (next to the bread.) Instead of letting the conversation stop there, we decided (over another martini) that we couldn’t hate our bodies forever… that at the end of the day we were happy and healthy and that counted for more than we were giving it credit. Our bodies were remarkable and imperfect but isn’t that how life is? We vowed that we wouldn’t be the 60 year old who still hated her flabby arms or the way her lip wrinkled when she smiled. We came to the conclusion that it wasn’t worth being paralyzed in fear regarding our body image and that it was time to just let it all go (and eat some cake.) You only live once, take care of yourself, don’t go crazy but enjoy the ride. Stop worrying about those last five pounds or your chubby cheeks or your fat arms…. chances are people are too busy enjoying your smile to even think twice about the things you nitpick. I think you are dang gorgeous, darling. I want you to feel beautiful and eat cake and throw confetti and live a full life. It’s too short not to!
This weeks print is “Eat more cake” because let’s be honest, a party without a cake is just a meeting and the world needs more celebration. I am also super pumped to share a peek at the throw pillows! They come as pillow covers and I am smitten with the way the floral design looks. Talk about a little girly punch for your bedroom! This print shop has been a wild ride and over the last three months I have had 300 orders, THREE HUNDRED. Holy cow, I am so excited and I can’t wait to keep painting and writing and making pretty things. Any requests?

I love you, I love this, and I love cake. Which I should have eaten to help soak up those martinis 🙂
