The countdown happens, the statuses announcing how many fleeting days until “the” day arrives. It’s like that can’t eat, can’t sleep feeling of excitement as you anticipate your wedding day. My feed is constantly filled with brides awaiting their big day and as I read each word, I smile fondly as I remember that feeling, the one where you feel like the day will never come… trust me, ladies, it will. As our second anniversary (holy, two years?) quickly approaches I think back to the days when we were not-so-patiently waiting our wedding day. I remember the jitters of excitement, the curiosity of what my life would look like after all the planning was done, the stress of the final little details, and the anticipation of finally marrying the one I love. I had yet to envision myself as a bride, I didn’t know what the day would really look like when everything and every one were in place, but I hated waiting. Truth be told, I am not the most patient of gals, let’s be real… microwave minutes seem like forever.

This weekend I get to share in the pure joy of photographing one of our best friends weddings. Ryan was Drew’s roommate in college, he shared a wall and shared a really incredible friendship. Throughout our dating life, Ryan became a fixture in not only Drew’s life, but mine. He is the kind of friend you always hoped you would find, so when he found Courtney we knew they would someday be playing the waiting game… the blessed, sacred game where you anxiously wait for your wedding day. Courtney and Ryan are a beautiful pair, they adore each other and being with them is just a reassurance that there is true love in the world.
As we waited and waited for their wedding day, we are quietly humbled and reminded that time does fly, each and every moment is fleeting, and that one thing remains the same: the world keeps on turning. As you wait for whatever it is you are waiting for, remind yourself to live in each moment, to soak up where you are at right here and now, to remember that time is something we can’t get back. Just as Courtney and Ryan waited for the day that they would meet and fall in love, so we have waited for the day when they would finally say I do. We are so honored and blessed to get to celebrate in their day, Drew as a groomsman, and me as the camera gal.
There is no greater honor than to be asked and trusted to capture the most awaited day of people’s lives… nothing.
