This whole weekend off concept is something I haven’t fully grasped. That whole not having plans or weddings or shoots or meetings makes my giddy and confused on what it is normal people do on Saturdays and Sundays! This weekend Drew and I were spectators at the CrossFit MadTown’s 4th Annual Challenge in Middleton, Wisconsin! Our head trainer and some of our buddies were competing and we wanted to be there to cheer, support, yell, and shoot some video. I love the off season so much because I get to flex my photography muscle and try new things without the pressure to deliver for clients. One of my main goals on this off season was to shoot more video and do personal projects… yes, it may be weird that a wedding photographer is shooting CrossFit videos but hey, it’s me we are talking about and you know I just follow my passions.
This was a two day event with multiple workouts that tested these athletes strength, stamina, and fight. My lord, they were grueling and the athletes fought hard. In this video there are four different work outs: maximum thrusters, three minutes max effort of double unders, a 5k row, and a muscle up/kettlebell snatch combo. It was so fun to watch, participate, and cheer my little buns off while thanking God that I wasn’t the one on the rower. After shooting all of this I wanted to grunt, drink a protein shake, and schedule a massage – because we all know spectating isn’t for the faint of heart. So without further ado, check out this little video I put together of some talented and strong athletes competing. As of last night it had over 1,000 views in under twelve hours – holy cow.
So, what do you think? CrossFit certainly isn’t for the faint of heart, but it sure offers something for everyone.
