HOMES IV: jake + simonne
“for the two of us, home isn’t a place. it is a person. and we are finally home.”
you might remember these two from awhile back, over a year later they are settled into the cutest apartment and happy as ever. at home with their furry friend, whiskers. it was so fun to sit and catch up on life with them and talk about the post wedding side of things. it is crazy how quickly a year flies by, life happens, jobs take over, and before you know time has passed. i loved hearing what the newlyweds had been up to and seeing the space they call home. thank you jake + simonne for believing in me when i started and for a friendship that is sure to span many years to come, you two are such a blessing. this series has been such a crazy avenue for me to explore my love for lifestyle work and to reconnect with the couples i witnessed as they began their journey and husband and wife.
meet: jake + simonne
ages: 22 and 20
location: delafield, wi
occupations: territory manager for a marketing and publishing company and a bank teller
how long have you been together: started dating two years ago, married over one year
how did you meet: we met through mutual friends. we stayed friends for a few years while hanging out numerous times and eventually started dating.
what do you admire most about your partner:
j: simonne has such a kind heart. it doesn’t matter who it is, she is always nothing but nice. she is also the most loving person i’ve ever met. it doesn’t matter what i’ve done or said, she always forgives me and loves and draws closer and closer.
s: i really admire jake’s sense of humor and big heart. he can always make me laugh even when i’m in a bad mood. i admire how kind he is to other people. i really feel that he would give the shirt off his back for a stranger. i also love how hard working and spiritual he is…he takes his head of household role very seriously which i think is a great blessing for both of us.
what are you most thankful for in your life?
j: i’m most thankful for my parents and the help they’ve given us in our first year of marriage. they’ve done amazing welcoming simonne into my side of the family and providing for us materially with essentials (knives, tools, furniture, etc.) that we needed.
s: i am really thankful for my loving family -including the one I have with my husband and cat. family is something that is really special to me and really plays a role in how you live your life. i don’t know where i would be without the love and support they’ve showed me.
what is something you are looking forward to?
j: i can’t wait to finally establish ourselves as a couple financially to give us the opportunity to travel together. we both have so many places we’d love to see and experience together. also i’m looking forward to buying our first house and making it our own.
s: i am looking forward most to our travels together and growing together as a couple. i know how much jake loves to travel and see the world and that is something i can’t wait to take a part of while we grow together and become closer.
one piece of advice for couples:
j: do as she says and don’t ask questions. it’s not worth the ensuing argument. haha.
s: never stop showing how much you love your partner. it’s one thing to say you love them, but to show it is so much more. the little things really make your love stay strong.
