“keep the earth below my feet. let me learn from where i have been. keep my eyes to serve, my hands to learn.”

bittersweet doesn’t really do justice to the feelings i have as i close off my 2012 season. on saturday i finished my 30th wedding and with that i closed off my first full time wedding season. as i uploaded the files, i felt like i was closing the door on one insanely incredible season. i thought about this entire year, a whirlwind crazy blessed year. a year i never knew i would encounter and didn’t have dreams of as a child, but a year that i couldn’t have ever dreamed up even if i had tried. they always say, “if you want to make god laugh, tell him your plans.” i am sure his belly aches over of the laughs i have given him. sorry god, but at least you got a killer ab workout over me.

these next few months will be full of reflection: remembering the amazing soirees i captured, the couples i spent time with, the business plans i had made, the gear i purchased, the shoots i shot and the tidbits i will take into next year. it is crazy what one year can do to a girl.. yes, i referred to myself as a girl, in my eyes i am still 17. i wouldn’t trade it for the world, well some of it i would maybe trade but let’s get real…this year has been filled with so much joy, so many experiences, a few hardships, and a lot of love. love stories, a love for what i do, newlywed love, puppy love. oh,  just oodles upon oodles of love.

i look forward to taking a few steps back and just taking a little time. time to adjust, time to dream, time to work on the things i have put on the back burner. perhaps i’ll learn how to knit or something.. don’t hold your breath for a pair of christmas socks, i think my perfectionism might make knitting anything a long process but i’ll give it a whirl. i should probably also take some time to get reacquainted with the kitchen and try out some new meals, mac and cheese is only good for so many dinners. i want to take a few more naps and decorate the house with christmas cheer. log a few more hours in the gym and a few less in front of the computer. i want to read all of the books i’ve started and abandoned and call my grandma more… either way, i am planning on having no set plans.

some people joke that i came out of the woodwork, but i like to think this all was a divine plan by god who happens to know me far better than i know myself. if i did come out of the woodwork, i hope it was pretty bamboo woodwork or something of the sort. either way, i have to say that this year was stinking awesome and i can’t even begin to imagine what 2013 has in store for me. i have goals and dreams that are sloppily jotted down in my dream book, but lord only knows that the list will grow and evolve just as i have this past year. i’ve given up on mega plans, god told me his belly needs a break. i’ve got to hand it over to the big guy, he is bloody brilliant. so heres to going wherever the wind blows me… cheers to one incredible year.
