Understanding the Concept of a Stage
Before we get into the nitty gritty, I asked Colin to explain exactly what he means when he says ‘selling from stage’.
Colin defines a stage as any space where your audience can engage with you visually and audibly. This includes virtual stages like webinars and virtual events, as well as in-person stages such as keynotes at conferences or workshops.
According to Colin, the key is to create an engaging experience where your audience can visually experience and verbally engage with you!
The Power of a High-Converting Presentation
Colin emphasizes the importance of creating ONE high-converting presentation that can scale your online course or business to new heights. That’s right, Goal Digger… you only need one presentation!
The most important thing about your presentation is that the focus should be on moving the audience to a greater level of commitment not only to the offer, but to themselves.
Your audience needs to be committed to making a change in their life (i.e. your offer) to experience the transformation you provide… and that’s why it’s crucial to hone in on this point in your presentation. Colin stressed that without conveying the value of your offer, you’re leaving money on the table every time you present.
Shifting from Information-Based to Decision-Based Content
According to Colin, information-based content focuses on providing practical steps and how-to instructions, which can overwhelm the audience and lead to a lack of commitment.
On the other hand, decision-based content is designed to move the audience to a greater level of commitment to the offer and themselves, encouraging a mindset shift and transformation… and THAT is why it’s important to focus on decision-based content in your presentations.
When creating your presentation, structure it in a way that aligns with the audience’s journey towards making a decision to invest in the offer. Instead of overwhelming the audience with too many steps and practical actions, focus on creating content that helps the audience see the value of the offer and the transformation it can bring to their lives.
By asking better questions and making powerful statements about ourselves, we can shift our mindset and approach to selling. This shift in mindset, combined with practice and repetition, can help us as business owners become more confident in delivering presentations that lead to conversions and impactful results!
The Psychology of Selling
I love the part of the interview when Colin dives into the mindset and confidence required for successful selling. He explains that we need to be conscious of the questions and thoughts that arise before a presentation, so that we can address them head-on!
When it comes to building confidence, Colin shared a few personal stories about how he overcame self-doubt in order to shift his mindset from selling to storytelling. By practicing presentations multiple times and refining the approach, Colin improved his skills and became more effective in conveying his message and making sales.
