Let’s be real, our mindset sets the tone for our entire workday, productivity levels, and ultimately, what we achieve. Everything begins and ends with our thoughts and beliefs. Which is exactly why I felt the need to address some common mental blocks for business, entrepreneurship, and heck, just your life in general. If you are looking to grow your business, leverage your social media strategy, and take your life to the next level, you’re in the right place.
Today, I am digging into the 5 big lies that are holding YOU back from living your true potential– in entrepreneurship, in starting a business, harnessing social media, seeking balance, and truly so much more.
From outsourcing to social media, all the way from our productivity tactics and commitments, I am shedding some light on how YOU can live out your potential. These 5 lies are holding you back from living your dreams… and it’s time to talk about it. This may just be our most powerful episode yet…
1. Believing the lie that outsourcing is not for your business.
I know what you’re thinking: “Jenna, I don’t have the budget to outsource.” and I’m here to tell you you’re wrong. This line of thinking is holding you back because 1.) I guarantee there are things in your business that you’re getting by on and ok at doing, but someone else is more gifted or efficient at them and 2.) Those tasks are tying up mental space, time and energy that could be used for bigger picture projects that are profit generating.
As entrepreneurs, we fall into the trap that we have to do everything and scrape by to make ends meet, but when we release this control and allow others in to do work that is in their genius zone and frees us up to do the same – this is where the magic happens. (PSSST: For more on this topic, tune in to episode 68 where I talk about how to outsource the right things!)
2. Saying too many yesses
What I’ve learned is that “No” can be a gentle “No” in your business and in your life because then you are able to say “Yes” to the people that ARE the right fit, to the people that will serve your business well, to the opportunities that will move you forward.
If you can stop trying to please everyone with saying too many yesses, you’re going to be able to focus on pleasing the right people and working on the right projects. Let’s not wrap our success up in our busyness and slow down to be intentional about the areas we are investing our time.
3. Failing to create systems and workflows for your business.
Trust me, I know creating workflows and systems are a lot of work. Sometimes it’s easier to just get the job done than to document the process or reflect on ways to make tasks more efficient or save time. But those second and minutes of work saved add up over time tenfold! Examples of this include canned emails, social media automation, annnnnd (you’ll have to tune in to hear other ideas!)
Besides outsourcing, systems have been the number one way I have been able to hit the pause button for rest as often as I do because I can batch the work ahead and let them run while I’m on the beach. Sounds worth it, doesn’t it?
4. jumping from task to task
Your disorganized workflow is holding you back. We can get so wrapped up in what’s seemingly urgent on our to-do list and it’s causing us to not work smart. The truth is, it’s easier to sit down and write 3 months of emails or record 10 podcast episodes all at once when you are in the zone. I’m sure this makes sense to all of you, but the hard part is actually doing it. Block time off on your calendar and keep the commitment to yourself. It will pay off tenfold in both in quality of work and time savings.
5. Putting too much worth into your social media accounts
It breaks my heart when I hear things like “I spend hours a day curating the perfect feed only to get ONE follower this month”. We should be focusing on things that are moving the bottom line of our business and not just things like more followers.
Instead of looking at how many people follow you, what if you focused on how much sales you’re doing, or how many leads you’re driving in your business. This always goes back to the thought that we don’t own our social media followers so we have to be investing our time into the places that are really growing our businesses in big ways. Instead of focusing SO much time and attention on social media, it’s time to use it intentionally and purposefully. You want to have it not be your end game but a part of your overall strategy.
That’s a wrap, folks. Oofta, that can be a lot to take in, but I have to ask you…Are one of these lies holding YOU back?
It’s time to address these mental blocks in order to benefit your business, entrepreneurship, creative pursuits, (and heck, just your life in general!) If you are looking to live out your potential, cross off your bucket list, and take your life to the next level, it’s time to cast off old beliefs and look to the future! You’ve got this, Goal Digger!
