“My favorite things in life don’t cost any money. It’s really clear that the most precious resource we all have is time.”
This weekend my worlds collided. My parents made a somewhat last minute road trip to visit us, they trekked the 6 hours and arrived on Friday night! It was so fun to let them see out home all decorated because the last time they were here, it was empty and we had just gotten our keys! I felt so grown up showing them the guest bedroom with clean linens and fresh towels awaiting – boy, when did I grow up and become a mediocre housewife? This weekend was pretty much the greatest because our worlds collided on so many levels. Our parents got to meet our fun neighbors, incredible friends, and hang with Drew’s family. It might not sound like much but when you live across state borders and 6 hours apart, these times are rare and so special.

My mom and I chat on the phone daily, so for her to finally piece together where I spend my time, who my crazy friends are, where I go on walks was kind of priceless (that and the the fact that we spent hours outside in tank tops, heaven.) From going on a long walk with my mom, to Drew’s trips to Menards with my dad, Easter lunch at the Kutchers, and a night at the pub with our favorites – I realized how precious our time together is and how thankful I am to be surrounded by freaking amazing people. Every night when we go to bed and say three things we are thankful for, we always talk about people – not things. We talk about our friends, our families, our health, our dogs… this weekend it felt like the epitome of our thankfulness because we were surrounded by so much of what means the world to us. (I wanted to soak up every moment – which of course required a few snapped photos in our kitchen! Seriously, we were laughing so hard.)
Just a year ago life looked a lot different, we didn’t have our home, we had just started to make friends in this town, and we were trying to figure out our next step. This weekend was proof that this past year was a year filled with growth: growth in business, growth in relationships, and growth in our marriage. We came into our own and created a new home that is shared with so many people we love. Having my parents see our space, meet our friends, spend time with the in-laws, explore our little village, (yes, we live in a village) and enjoy the things we get to do together was living proof that time is our most valuable resource and it is something I seriously cherish the older I get. We laughed as we told old stories, went through hilarious throwback photos (um, yeah I had crazy awesome bangs) and spent time sipping beer while talking life (or watching American Pickers – whatever came first.) I am so dang lucky to have such incredible parents and this weekend my heart felt like it might burst out of my chest as our worlds all collided in the best of ways. Yeah, you could say it was a good weekend. I am so darn thankful.
