The Process: Alright friends, this took forever to get together but a lot of you wanted to see my 40 piece collection, so here it is! If you missed my first post on “‘What is a Capsule Wardrobe, Anyway?” You might want to start there, it explains the process, why I am obsessed with it, and how it’s literally changed my life. You’ll notice the majority of it is neutrals. I stuck to a cool color palette of: black, white, blue, beige, grey and army green. While it might seem boring at first, everything goes together so easily and a lot of the pieces are mix and match! It’s super easy to just pull a few things off of the hanger and put together a chic outfit! I also have to disclose that I really didn’t shop much.

When you have a pretty neutral closet, everything goes with everything! Packing for a trip last weekend was SO easy because I knew that whatever I grabbed could be mixed and matched into a million combinations! A lot of this was last seasons clothing, most of my pieces were still things I liked (they had just gotten buried in the bottom of my closet!) so it was hard to find the right links for all of the products (I did my best to match up the items with what is in my closet, but goodness, it was a challenge!) I posted links below for you to shop this post and tried to get the closest matches for the items that are no long for sale!

If you’re panicking at the thought of only having 40 items in your closet keep this in mind: a capsule wardrobe has no rules, you can make it work for you. They do not include: workout clothes, formal attire, and accessories. So that 40 items collection is more your everyday, going to coffee or work or on a date attire!

A few investment pieces included: black ankle booties, tan ankle booties, a leather jacket (I actually settled on one for Target that’s under $50), a few new sweaters from Urban Outfitters, and a boyfriend shirt (I have yet to find the perfect one!) My total budget for this season was: $500, which I have yet to finish spending! You’d be surprised at how little you can spend when you know exactly what you need!

So far I have lived in: black skinny jeans with sweaters and ankle boots! It’s so easy and if you add a few pieces of jewelry, you can look really pulled together! I also LOVE sweaters, because y’all know I hate wearing real bras and if you find the right ones, you can get away with a sports bra underneath!

I ended up with: 1 tank, 3 tees, 2 collared shirts, 3 long sleeves, 6 sweaters, 6 jackets, 1 vest, 4 pairs of pants, 3 sneakers, 5 boots, and 1 kimono for a grand total of 36 pieces! I am still on the hunt for a few final specific additions, so I will end this season at around 40 pieces with many that will be carrying over to Winter!

For next season: I will take better inventory so I can just do one shopping trip at the beginning of the season. Since this was my first capsule, it took me awhile to realize what I was missing and what I needed to add to my closet. I also wanted to support some of my favorite brands, so I was pretty picky about where I was shopping and where my budget was going. Next season, I should only need a few different (read: warmer) pieces to finish things off, so I hope to knock it all out on one day! It saves time shopping and browsing and gives you a collection right off the bat!
