As we enter a new year, resolutions are flying by on social media, the gyms are suddenly more full, the fridge looks a little healthier, and us entrepreneurs are feeling tons of pressure to set some really big business goals for the new year. If you’re like me, goal setting freaks you out a little bit (just being honest!) and you’re questioning if you really need to write down those goals that are floating in the abyss called your brain.

One of the biggest things I want to continue to strive towards, my entrepreneurial unicorn, is balance. Yes, I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: balance. I don’t know if it’s ever something we will hit or hold on to, for that matter, but I think if we are consciously working towards it, that’s the first step towards progress. So today I want to share with you five ways I am going to continue to work smarter, not harder in the new year and hopefully inspire you to do the same!

1.) Outsource:

This past year I finally loosened the grip of control on my business and once I let go just a tiny bit, I couldn’t stop. Seriously, I’ve never spent more money hiring people to help with my business (and coming from a girl who absolutely hated the “H” word – help – I’ve grown in leaps and bounds!) I want to continue to assign tasks to my team of contractors and figure out ways we can get some of the menial tasks off of my plate so that I can focus on the aspects of my business that are my “genius” spots. You don’t want to go into the new year working so much IN your business that you can’t work ON it.

2.) Organize:

Thank goodness for my righthand gal, Caitlyn, and her obsession with organizing things. My mind? The most untidy place a thought could live. Our goal is to really get simple things done like having a shared calendar so she can see my availability and help schedule in things like podcast interviews, shoots, etc. We really want this year to be seamless when it comes to client care and the biggest thing we need to do is just organize and keep organizing. This goes for: calendars, templates, workflows, etc. Organization isn’t my strongest trait but that’s why I hired someone who’s passionate about it (and who can give me a swift kick in the booty when I need it!)

3.) Workflows:

Chances are in your life and business there are things that you do over and over again. Right? There’s a rhyme and reason to the order and communication surrounding your work, so what would it look like if you took a day or two to make a template that outlined your exact workflow so that if/when you hire someone to help you out, they can take over without skipping a beat? Last year we signed up for Honeybook and that totally changed the way we do business. It has gotten me in a routine with each inquiry, each client, so that every single JK client get’s an experience we are proud of. From contracts to payments, pipelines to simply keeping things in one spot, Honeybook has simplified the process! This allows my team to step in and serve well, so this year is all about getting our workflows down pat so that every “t” is crossed and every “i” is dotted!

4.) Simplify:

I think it’s easy as business owners and entrepreneurs to always want to have our hands in a new project! We are always dreaming and scheming but this will be the year where I stay pretty horizontal and just work on refining my signature offerings from courses to photography. I’ve re-invented the wheel too many times and I just want to really take a step back and make good, great. There is so much power in taking a step back from the endless hustle and just looking at what’s working, what isn’t working, and making micro tweaks that can have macro impact on your business! This year we won’t be adding a ton of new avenues or offerings but instead focus on adding even more value to what’s already out there!

5.) Grow:

Last year I spent most of the year pouring into other people and I didn’t take a ton of time to foster growth within myself. The furthest I got to education was speaking on stages at workshops and listening to podcasts, so I am excited to really delve a bit deeper into my personal development both as a human and as business owner and set aside intentional time for growth in my life and business! From taking on a new mastermind mentor to attending online trainings and take courses, I want to fill up myself so that I have more to pour into others. You never, ever regret learning! I’ve started this new year with a budget to help take me further in business and I am excited to spend my money on growth!

Working smarter, not harder is a passion and trend for 2017!
