I’m obsessed with morning routines. There’s just something about hearing how people start their day—their rituals, routines, and even those quirky little habits—that gives me a glimpse into their world.
Over the years, my mornings have evolved—a lot. Parenthood, business, and life in general have reshaped how I approach my day. Today, I’m giving you a backstage pass to my exact morning playbook: what I do to set the tone, the rituals that ground me, and the productivity hacks that keep me on track.
Whether you’re juggling life as a CEO, managing parenthood, or just trying to figure out what works for you, there’s something here for you. So grab your coffee or lace up those sneakers, and let’s dive into my morning playbook!
The Reality of Routines
One thing I’ve learned? No two days look the same—especially as a mom.
I used to hear about other people’s morning routines and assume that they followed them religiously every single day. But life just doesn’t work that way. The truth is, routines are flexible, and they evolve based on the season of life you’re in.
Right now, my kids are 3 and 6, which means I have more glimpses of freedom than I did in those newborn trenches.
The key takeaway? Your routine has to work for YOU. It doesn’t need to look like someone else’s perfectly curated morning. It just needs to help you start your day with clarity and intention.
My Morning Routine: The Playbook
Here’s what an ideal morning looks like for me:
- Wake Up Before the Kids (Ideally!) – My goal is to wake up at 6:45 AM, just 10 minutes before my kids, to get a little moment of peace. Do I always succeed? Nope. But when I do, it helps me feel more centered.
- No Phones in the Bedroom – We haven’t slept with our phones in our room for nearly a decade. Instead, we charge them downstairs in a designated spot. This eliminates the temptation to scroll first thing in the morning.
- Making the Bed – I go all out—throw pillows, crisp sheets, everything. It’s a small act that makes our space feel calm and organized from the start.
- Quick Skincare Routine – I love using Primally Pure’s Clarifying Spray or Everything Spray, followed by a moisturizer or a tinted SPF from One Skin if I’m wearing makeup that day.
- Workout Clothes First – If I put on my workout clothes in the morning, I’m way more likely to actually move my body later in the day.
- Family Breakfast & Calm Mornings – My husband, Drew, makes breakfast while I get the kids dressed. We keep our mornings low-key—dimmer lights, soft music, and no rushing around.
- Protein First Thing – I used to skip breakfast, but now I aim for 30g of protein right away. I love pre-made shakes like Jocko Molk or Pioneer Pastures to get in my protein quickly.
- Hydration & Supplements – I take a Keantan isotonic drink (packed with minerals), then sip on water to start my day hydrated.
- Drop-Off & My Reset – Once the kids are off to school at 8 AM, I finally have a quiet house. Instead of jumping straight into work, I take about 45 minutes to do things that recharge me: red light therapy, laying on my PEMF mat, or even just taking deep breaths before opening my laptop.
Productivity Hacks That Changed the Game
My mornings set the stage for a productive day, and over the years, I’ve honed a few habits that help me stay focused and efficient.
- Tune Into Your Energy Cycles – Pay attention to when you’re naturally most productive and schedule your biggest tasks during that window. For me, it’s 9 AM – 1 PM. That’s when I schedule deep work, creative tasks, and focused projects.
- Boundaries Are Everything – I don’t take calls on Mondays anymore so I can ease into my workweek. I also batch meetings on specific days so I can have deep focus on the other days. One new thing we’re implementing? No Slack Hours—a set period where my team doesn’t message each other so everyone can focus deeply.
- Gamify & Simplify Tasks – Boring tasks drain me, so I make them fun. I’ll set a timer for 10 minutes to clean a space, listen to a podcast while folding laundry, or follow the two-minute rule (if a task takes less than two minutes, do it immediately!).
- Automate & Delegate Where You Can – I’ve streamlined grocery orders, automated bill payments, and even delegate simple tasks to my husband or team. The mental load is real, so I try to lighten it wherever possible.
- Use Visual Cues for Focus – Whether it’s a post-it note for my sourdough baking times or a shared Skylight calendar in the pantry, visual reminders help keep me on track without overwhelming my brain.
Make Mornings Work for YOU
At the end of the day, mornings are about setting the tone for the rest of your day. Whether it’s something simple like making your bed or something more intentional like a meditation practice, every little ritual adds up.
Remember, this isn’t about having a perfect routine—it’s about finding rhythms that energize you and set you up for success.
