This guest, y’all. SO GOOD. This Monday I am teaming up with the brilliant, inspiring Jordan Dooley of Soul Scripts. Jordan is a blogger who is threading real life experiences, growth, and advice into the internet with her incredible brand. Her slogan is “your brokenness is welcome here”, and I could not love that open arm mindset more.
Jordan and I dug into the creative process, writing for us AND our followers, proclaiming your faith in the business world, and embracing the process and chaos of it all. This chick is INSPIRING, you guys. Full of energy, positivity, and a healthy dose of realism. What a gift she was to interview! Can’t wait to hear what you guys learn!
HOW TO HAVE A SUCCESSFUL BLOG
Be willing to embrace the “trial and error” mindset when you get started- research and learn as you go, but don’t be afraid to start! Jordan also mentioned that you have to share with purpose- think of who you are reaching, be intentional with your words. The more you blog, be willing to explore the trends within your site and see what works and how to replicate that.
HOW TO CREATE CONTENT:
Okay, gang. Cranking out content is HARD. I couldn’t resist asking Jordan her favorite ways to stay inspired. And she said just that. Sometimes it is a “willingness”– a choice— to stay inspired. She spoke further to say, after time it becomes a skill to turn on your creative juices. She mentioned taking the initiative and going to places where you are willing to look, unplug, think, and grow. Be willing to tweak and let yourself be present until you get that quality, valuable content. But she didn’t stop there! Below are her main strategies when she is feeling writers block:
JORDAN’S FAVORITE METHODS TO FIND INSPIRATION FOR CONTENT:
- Look at reader questions and comments! These questions very easily turn into content. And, bonus! Answering the readers questions is what they WANT to hear!
- Reflect on YOUR life. Write about a personal experience or pain point. Even if the season isn’t done or you didn’t perfectly “solve” it, readers will relate.
- Spend time with peers (often times they are the people who fit your reader demographic!). Being with those people can inspire you to see what they want, what they talk about, and ultimately, what content THEY would want!
- Ask yourself the hard questions. Jordan mentioned quizzin herself, “What do people come to ME for?!” She said asking herself this gives her the lens of “when am I my best self? What is the role only *I* can fill?”. Ask yourself and come alive in that!
HOW NOT TO GET LOST IN THE PROCESS:
Work is crazy busy sometimes- especially when life is in a busy stage. Jordan mentioned getting lost in the chaos of marriage, moving, career growth this post year, and said the easiest way for her to “come back down” is to take a second to pause and breathe. We overlook so much of what it means to “be” in the process . SO much of what we see as a stressor is actually a privilege, and I loved that message!
HOW TO SHARE YOUR FAITH:
I loved how Jordan spoke about sharing her faith. She said, “It is a part of me– it’s like not sharing my name when meeting someone. It’s the courage and boldness to proclaim this is who I am.” We spoke about how denying it won’t get you anywhere. People connect with you much more than what you do. Whether it is sharing your faith or your children or your divorce, the RIGHT clients won’t be scared off. Embrace that authentic connection with your readers and followers! They want to know YOU- not just your business. Trust that principle and the right people will come to you!
I think this may be my longest shownotes to date simply because there is SO much incredible content on this episode. This girl is THE real deal and I feel so stinkin lucky to have spent time picking her brain. Can’t wait to hear what you guys think!
