The other night I was sitting on the couch scrolling through Instagram and feeling a bit crumby. I was looking at photos of everyone traveling the world, dressing in things other than yoga pants, sipping perfect lattes with a leaf design in the foam, and people’s food photos of those who cook more than just macaroni and cheese for dinner. It’s funny isn’t it, the things we are drawn to, the social media we can’t live without can be the things that can make us feel inadequate. Why do we do this to ourselves? Why do you continue the unending quest in shouting that our lives are the best and that we have our ish together in perfect square images? Why do you expose ourselves to the feeling like we are never enough? When I posted this, I got so many responses saying that people needed to hear this more, that this was a message worth sharing.
You are enough.
Well, the truth is, social media is a double edged sword. It’s a place to keep up with friends, seek new inspiration, network with other professionals, and make new friends. But where do we draw the line? When do we realize and allow ourselves to believe that what we are looking at is the highlight reel of talented folks? When do we get back to real life and start living those behind the scenes looks at what we’ve really been up to? Why do we run from sharing the imperfect when it might actually draw people in more? Where do we share our hearts? For me, it’s this space. This space on the web is where I share my heart, my musings, the things that keep me up at night and the things that drive my passion. I share my heart for my clients, my love for my husband, and some hilarious tales of what my unglamorous, imperfect latte, mac and cheese life looks like. It isn’t in little square boxed images, it isn’t though funny little tweets – sure those are a piece of me, but they aren’t the whole story. Where are you sharing your real life? Is it at girls night with a glass of wine? Laying in bed with your husband late at night? On the phone with your mom?
You are so enough.
Here’s what I have to say to you, more so, I want to shout it to you – every single day. I want you to know that you, darling, are enough. You are so enough, it’s unbelievable how enough you are. Why do you feel that you aren’t? What is driving the force that allows you to doubt yourself? I want you to know that the person you are at this very moment is enough. I want you to believe that your dreams are valid and that you are capable of achieving greatness. I want you to never feel that you are lacking or unworthy or not able to change the world. You are enough, beautiful, you truly are. I want you to tattoo this sentiment on your heart for those moments when you life doesn’t look like a perfectly styled square image, I want you to remember this when you hit a bad streak or are reminded of your flaws, when the self doubt swallows you whole or when your life looks more like a blooper tape than a highlight reel. This ones for you, now get out and do big things. I am cheering you on!
It’s unbelievable how enough you are.
