The Role of AI in Content Creation

We kicked off our discussion by addressing the impact of AI on content creation. Susie shared her perspective that while AI is a fantastic tool that’s only getting better, it still has limitations. Audiences are smart; they can tell when something feels real and authentic versus when it’s generated by a machine.

Susie emphasized that AI can help source ideas, but it cannot replace the human element of storytelling.

The stories we share, our personal experiences, and the wisdom we impart are what truly connect us with our audiences. In a world where many are taking shortcuts with AI, those of us who are willing to share our authentic stories will stand out.

Trust as the New Currency

As we move toward 2025, Susie believes that trust will be the new currency. In a landscape filled with noise and distractions, people are craving authenticity. They want to connect with real stories and real people.

This is where media coverage comes into play.

Susie explained that being featured in credible media sources can serve as a shortcut to building trust with your audience. When you’re featured in a well-respected publication, it not only boosts your credibility but also allows you to tap into an established audience that already trusts that media outlet.

For example, if someone discovers you through a feature in a publication like Forbes or Good Housekeeping, they’re more likely to trust you because that media brand has spent years building its reputation. This is a powerful way to leverage existing trust and credibility to your advantage.

The Power of Media Coverage

We dove deeper into how media coverage can help build trust. Susie shared her own experiences, mentioning that she regularly contributes to Katie Couric Media.

She explained that when someone sees her featured there, they might think, “If Katie trusts her, then I can trust her too.”

This is the beauty of media coverage: it creates an instant connection and credibility. Susie pointed out that when people come into her world through media features, they are often eager to engage with her offerings. The trust is established immediately, making it easier for her to connect with new leads.

Visibility and Context

One of the key takeaways from our conversation was the importance of visibility and context. Susie likened it to a bottle of water being sold in different environments. The same product can have different perceived values depending on where it’s found.

When you appear in the right context—like a trusted media outlet—you’re not just gaining visibility; you’re also elevating your perceived value.

In a world where attention spans are shrinking, being featured in a credible media source can cut through the noise and create meaningful connections with your audience.

How to Get Featured in the Media

Now that we’ve established the importance of media coverage, let’s talk about how to actually get your name out there. Susie shared her insights on this, emphasizing that anyone can achieve media coverage, regardless of their stage in business.

The first step is to realize that you are ready for this. You don’t need to be a fancy expert or have years of experience. Your life experiences and the lessons you’ve learned are enough. Susie encourages everyone to think about what they can share that would be valuable to others.

Next, identify your “celebrity identity.” What is your niche? What do you want to talk about? Once you have clarity on that, you can start to identify where your audience is likely to be.

Susie also highlighted the importance of presenting your ideas in a sharp and timely manner. It’s all about having the willingness to go for it and raise your hand to say, “I can help.”

Real-Life Examples of Media Wins

To inspire us, Susie shared some real-life examples of her community members who have successfully secured media features.

One woman wrote about her experience awakening her dead marriage after having kids, while another shared her journey as a deaf fitness instructor who works out with clients without music.

These stories are relatable and resonate with many people. Susie emphasized that the media is looking for real stories from everyday people, not just traditional experts. This is where you can shine—by sharing your unique experiences and insights.

Leveraging Your Media Features

Once you secure a media feature, it’s essential to leverage that win to maximize its impact. Susie shared her strategy for making the most out of a single media feature.

First, celebrate your win! Share it with your existing audience and let them know where they can find you. This not only boosts your credibility but also encourages your followers to celebrate you, reinforcing their trust in you.

Next, use that media feature as a stepping stone for more opportunities. Once you’ve been featured in one outlet, it becomes easier to pitch to others. The credibility you gain from one feature can open doors to more media opportunities.

Susie also mentioned the importance of backlinks. When you’re featured on a high-traffic site, it can boost your search engine optimization (SEO) and help you climb the charts in search results. This is a hidden benefit that many people overlook.

The Importance of Authenticity

Throughout our conversation, one theme remained clear: authenticity is key.

In a world where trust is becoming increasingly valuable, being genuine and transparent in your messaging is essential.

Susie encouraged listeners to think about their stories and how they can share them in a way that resonates with others. Whether it’s a personal journey, a lesson learned, or a unique perspective, your voice matters.

Become An Overnight Rockstar

As we wrapped up our conversation, I asked Susie what the first step would be for someone looking to get featured in the media. She suggested starting with a vision board. Visualizing where you want to be can help set your intentions and motivate you to take action.

Next, think about what you can offer to your audience. What valuable insights or experiences can you share? Once you have that clarity, the rest is just strategy!
