You asked and I’m answering! It’s been a while since we’ve opened up my advice column-style episodes on the Goal Digger Podcast, so Kylie turned to the private Goal Digger Insiders Facebook Group and to the @goaldiggerpodcast Instagram to collect your questions on business, life, and everything in between.

From Clubhouse to SEO, hashtags and podcast growth, plus your personal questions on being a momma and making it to the “big leagues”, this episode covers it all.

Clubhouse for Business

Lexiregalado wants to know: What do you think about Clubhouse? Worth spending time there for your business?

The first time I hopped on Clubhouse, I somehow started a room and began broadcasting my own voice without realizing it! I quickly removed permissions and made a point to return to the app when I had a chance to understand how it really works.

I like the live conversation aspect of the app and so far, I’ve seen it as a really great way to learn from voices that I may not otherwise be exposed to. For now, I’ll keep learning and showing up there when I can, and share my future insights on getting results from that app with you.

Hashtags Update

Corthopewilson asks: Are hashtags out? Seems like they don’t perform as much now.

Research from Hubspot says that in 2021, posts with 9 to 11 hashtags perform best according to their tests. Be sure you’re not using the same hashtags on every post and made a few of the hashtags relevant to the photo you’re posting.

Hit play on this episode for my full review of the current state of hashtags and how we’re using them on the Goal Digger Podcast platform and on my personal Instagram account.

SEO Quick Start Guide

Teryn Strickler asks: What is SEO exactly? Are there any resources you recommend for learning more about it and using it to build a business?

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the practice of increasing the quantity and quality of traffic to your website through non-paid results on search engines like Google. The content of your website along with the actual structure of your website can play into how it’s indexed by a search engine.

I give a three step guide to get started with SEO in this episode. Hit play!

Podcast Growth Trends

Laura Seitz asks: What are you seeing in podcast trends? What’s a good download goal to shoot for per episode within the first year of growth?

The number of downloads considered “good” in the first year is completely dependent on your potential reach and target audience. You need to set your own download goals and overall definition of success for your podcast.

Here are some industry standard stats — According to The Feed, a podcast published by our podcast hosting service Libsyn:

  • If your episodes get more than 124 downloads in 30 days, you’re in the top 50% of podcasts.
  • If your episodes get more than 6,700 downloads you’re in the top 3%.

If you’re not hitting 124 downloads per episode and you feel down on yourself about it, reframe your mindset. When was the last time you had the opportunity to speak to a room of 50, 75, 100 people? If your definition of success with your podcast is to motivate and inspire, educate or entertain, you’re doing it even with 10 listeners. What can you do with those dedicated listeners that will not only serve them, but lead you closer to your goals outside of the podcast?

A great way to evaluate your podcast health and growth is to look at launch day downloads — Do they increase week over week? What trends are you seeing throughout the week? Is there a boost in downloads 3 days after you release a new episode? Are downloads down or plateaued one week? Analyzing trends versus obsessing over a number is a better way to get a picture of your growth.
