relax
“happiness is part of who we are. joy is the feeling”
i drink a few cups of coffee, grab my knitting needles, and put on some classic folk tunes… it appears i will be turning 80 in april, but in reality i am only going to be the ripe age of 25. i will be the first to admit, i function best when i incredibly busy. sometimes i look back to when this all began and wondered how the heck i worked a full time job, started a wedding blog, a photography business, and planned a wedding all at the same time. i must have been mary poppins or something of the sort. i was always that nerdy kid who wouldn’t talk to people after class because i was so into the idea of doing my homework at school so i never had to carry a heavy backpack onto the bus, i must have carried that ethic into my adulthood. going into these months, i was concerned what i would fill my days with during my “off” season and even contemplated picking up a part time job just for fun. wow, was i wrong… i have been busier than ever. i have been focusing on business planning, working on budgets, completing paperwork, working with brides, mentoring photographers, traveling the country, updating my web presence, and of course blogging to you lovely readers on a daily basis.
one thing i am focused on is relaxing. i stink at it, i would be lying if i said i was good at it. i am the self proclaimed queen of multitasking so my “rest” time usually is me working from bed, or updating my social media while at a coffee shop. i am intentionally setting time aside for things that are crazy important to me and help keep me inspired. i am attempting to set boundaries and working on sticking to them. i am filling my schedule with workshops like creativeLIVE that include trips to seattle, vacations with my husband, naps with my pups, girls nights out, listening to sermons, and reading good books. these are all things that i enjoy and often forget to include into my schedule. i think learning to relax is so incredibly important in this digital world, it is so good for your soul and a way to stay on fire for what you do. we get so caught up in our dreams and our work and we forget how to just be. to just rest, relax, soak up the moment, see the little things, appreciate the change… those moments inspire me and remind me the power of making time to relax. so, as we embark on a weekend, i challenge you to make a short list of things that inspire you and relax you and do them. make time for them, wholeheartedly attempt to do them, and bask in the fact that you are totally awesome.
what is your favorite way to relax?
