Have you ever felt like you’re constantly creating, pouring your ideas, energy, and creativity into something, only to post it once, cross your fingers, and move on to the next thing?

Creating is the part that feels natural. It’s the fun part. But promoting? That’s where a lot of us freeze. Promotion feels more vulnerable. So we do what we’ve always done—we make something new. We stay busy. We stay in motion.

But what if the real power isn’t in making more, but in letting what you’ve already made breathe a little longer? What if the magic isn’t in more content, but in more intention behind how it’s shared?

In this episode, I’m walking you through a simple mindset shift that changed everything for me. If you’re feeling burned out, tired of feeding the algorithm, or wondering why your content doesn’t seem to carry the weight it should, this one’s for you.

We’ll explore what it looks like to shift from short-term content bursts to long-term, strategic sharing. I’m talking about ways to make your creations live longer, reach further, and work harder without requiring more from you every single day.

And yes, we’ll also touch on a platform I’ve been teaching for over eight years, one I’ve helped over 25,000 people use in their business to create content systems that actually last.

You can learn allll about it in my FREE class, Create Once, Traffic for Months: The Pinterest Plan That Extends Your Content’s Lifespan in Just One Hour a Week!

So if you’re ready to get off the content hamster wheel and start building a business where your work keeps working, even while you rest, this is your permission slip. Let’s dive in!

The Content Hamster Wheel Is Real

It’s easy to get stuck in a cycle of “create, post, repeat.” We pour our energy into a single piece of content, post it once, and move on to the next thing. I lived this way for years: chasing the algorithm, creating in real-time, and wondering why I felt burnt out all the time.

When I became a mom, I paused out of necessity. And what surprised me was that the pause didn’t break anything. The blog posts, podcast episodes, and pins I had already created? They kept delivering. They brought in traffic, leads, and engagement while I was doing things like rocking a baby or folding laundry. I had unintentionally built a body of work that worked for me, even while I rested.

This shift changed how I think about content creation. I used to approach it like a sprint, trying to meet the algorithm’s ever-changing needs. But the truth is, most of us are working for our content, when it should be the other way around. And the numbers back this up.

According to a 2024 LocaliQ study, 53% of small business owners spend between one and ten hours each week on marketing, while another 25% spend over eleven hours. The majority of that time is spent creating content, not promoting what’s already been made.

That’s a significant investment of time, and when there’s little to no long-term return, it becomes a recipe for burnout!

You’re Pouring Hours Into Content That Disappears

If you’ve ever spent an entire afternoon scripting, filming, captioning, and posting a single Instagram reel, only to watch it fall flat within a day, you’re not alone. I’ve done it too: investing hours into a post that I was sure would move the needle, only to have it sink into the feed and fade before anyone really saw it.

I came across a stat from Levitate Media that floored me. On average, it takes three to five hours to create one Instagram reel, and yet its visibility lasts only 24 to 48 hours.

That’s a shorter lifespan than a ripe avocado! We’re creating with the best of intentions, and yet the moment we hit publish, the algorithm takes over and we’re left chasing the next idea.

It’s like building sandcastles at high tide. The waves of social media are constantly washing away our work. But what if we stopped building for the tide and started building for something more permanent?

Content That Works While You Rest

Long-form content has always been my sweet spot. I started with a blog back in the day and blogged Monday through Friday, every single weekday for years. Later came the podcast, and now, between the two, I’ve created a library of content that is searchable, deep, and purposeful.

Every month, nearly half of my podcast downloads come from older episodes. Some people find me through a blog post I wrote three years ago. Others binge episodes on a long drive.

These pieces don’t just educate or inspire, they convert. They invite people to join my list, download a freebie, and enroll in a program. They’re not dead ends. They’re doorways into my world.

When we rely solely on short-form, feed-based content, we lose that lasting value. We miss the opportunity to build something with staying power. Flash-in-the-pan content burns bright and fast. Evergreen content builds a foundation you can keep growing on.

Pinterest: The Quiet Powerhouse You Might Be Overlooking

Pinterest is often lumped into the social media bucket, but it’s actually a search engine. And a powerful one. For the past eight years, I’ve taught over 25,000 entrepreneurs how to use Pinterest as a long-term visibility tool. It’s not about pinning your dream kitchen anymore, it’s about turning your existing content into a traffic machine.

I personally outsource just one hour a week of Pinterest strategy. That single hour sends between 10,000 and 15,000 visitors to my content every month. And the best part? They’re landing on my blog, my sales pages, my podcast—places I own.

What makes Pinterest so valuable is its long tail. While a reel or feed post might fade in a day, a single pin will gather engagement for over 13 months on average. That stat comes straight from Pinterest’s internal data and it still blows my mind.

And there’s no limit to how many pins you can create to promote one piece of content. I can make 10 pins in 20 minutes. That’s more than a year of visibility from just a few assets.

It’s not just about visibility either. Pinterest delivers a 35% year-over-year improvement in ROI and has been shown to be 21% more effective than other platforms when compared to digital benchmarks, according to Analytic Partners.

Tldr; If you’re already creating content with purpose, Pinterest is how you make it work harder and longer.

A Smarter, Simpler Way to Create

When I create something now, I ask myself: will this still matter in three months? That’s the filter. If it won’t, I reconsider making it. Because I’m not just creating for today’s likes, I’m creating for long-term connection and conversion.

If you’ve ever heard that you should save three months of income for emergencies, I’d argue that the same applies to content.

What would it look like to have three months’ worth of content working behind the scenes for you? What if, while you took a break or logged off for summer, your work kept showing up and delivering value?

That’s what I want for you. And it’s possible.

Your time is your most valuable currency, and your content should give you time back, not take more of it away. You are allowed to slow down. You’re allowed to create less and still grow more.

If you’re ready to stop creating just to keep up and start building content ecosystems that support you, I want to teach you how!
