A few years ago, I decided that I wanted to make reading FUN again! After falling asleep nightly trying to read about things like habits or new marketing strategies, I banned myself from reading anything that didn’t feel fun (and I save those nitty gritty books for Audible!) Every night, before bed, I read just for fun and I’m honestly impressed with the volume of books I’ve been able to get through.
So, it’s time to cozy up with a good book! Whether you’ve been looking for a great new romantic comedy or a thrilling mystery, there are plenty of exciting books out there for you to explore. Here are ten book recommendations for fun, fictional reads that will keep you entertained and captivated page after page.
The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen
This was a super compelling read! My book agent, Margaret, was also behind this book and so I was so excited to dig into it. It follows a couple who seem to have it all. The perfect life, perfect home, perfect family — until Marisa cheats and her infidelity leads her to connect with an unconventional therapist who’s trying to put their marriage back together again. This one had twists and turns and kept me guessing until the very end!
City of Likes by Jenny Mollen
For someone who has a presence on social media, this one was fascinating (and a look at when social media influence can go too far!) This one is a witty social media satire that follows an Instagram influencer from the outside and what can really go on behind the scenes! It was a page-turner and the ending totally caught me off guard (in a good way!)
Summer Island by Kristin Hannah
I am a huge fan of anything by Kristin Hannah! (The Nightengale is still one of my top books.. EVER!) Summer Island tells the story of two sisters who must face their fears and confront the secrets of their past after they are unexpectedly reunited on an island off the coast of Maine.
Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid
I have read every single book Taylor Jenkins Reid has ever written and this one did not disappoint! This was my pick for our monthly book club and everyone loved it! It’s about a famous tennis player — and I don’t know much about tennis, but this book totally hooked me in. Carrie Soto is Back presents readers with an endearing tale about second chances, forgiveness, and following your dreams
This Time Tomorrow by Emma Straub
This Time Tomorrow kind of reminds me of Freaky Friday in a way when Alice, who’s turning 40 wakes up and she’s back in 1996, reliving her 16th birthday. She sees things in a new light and starts to piece together what sort of future she really wants. This is a great book for people feeling like they are at a crossroads or aren’t truly fulfilled in their current life.
Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus
Everywhere I look, I see this book (and for good reason!) It’s witty, feminist-driven, and an interesting look at how women have had to pave their own paths for decades. It follows one woman’s journey from lab assistant to scientist as she fights against sexism to pursue her dreams.
Book Lovers by Emily Henry
I picked this one up after reading a thriller and needing a change of pace and boy did I get it! I absolutely love Emily Henry’s writing style and wit in this book. Her characters feel 3D and the storyline is fun and light. This is a charming romantic comedy about two people in the publishing world who find themselves intertwined in unexpected ways as they both search for true love.
The Club by Ellery Lloyd
This one was a thriller (and sort of dark – fair warning!) It’s a story about a celebrity members’ club where the rich and famous can party hard and then crash out in its five-star suites, far from the prying eyes of fans and the media. But this launch party goes awry and there’s a mystery that happened. This one is a pageturner that keeps you guessing with every page.
The Soulmate Equation by Christina Lauren
I absolutely loved this one! It was light and fun. The perfect blend of science fiction and romantic comedy! This story follows one woman who must choose between relying on technology or trusting her own gut instincts when it comes to finding love. In our world that tries to create formulas and algorithms for love, who really knows best? You’ll have to read it to find out.
Wish You Were Here by Jodi Picoult
This was another book club pick for my quaint book club and we loved it! Jodi Picoult is another author that I think I’ve read every single one of her books. This book intertwines a lot of our experiences we had in 2020 with the storyline of a woman who had her whole life planned out and right on track. When her dream vacation is scheduled and her boyfriend has to stay back as an essential worker, Diana’s entire trajectory changes.
There you have it! The ten recent books that I’ve read (and enjoyed!) Every single night before bed, I read (some days I get through about four pages before my eyes shut but other nights I can’t put my book down!) Reading for fun has been a huge way for me to unwind and prepare for sleep and these fun books help make that part of my day some of my favorite moments!
