foster failure.

“a dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.”

.

go ahead and say it all together, you know you want to… come on, as a chorus you can all say together, “jenna, i told you so.” yes, you probably did, everyone did. they warned me that if i fostered a pup i would likely add to my brood.. and you know what? i am beyond happy that we did. it all started months ago when i begged drew to let us, please hunny, can we help another pup just like someone had helped our little chloe? drew was reluctant at first, but i know my way around that by now. as we were all comfy cozy on the couch sleeping off our food comas on thanksgiving night, i got an email with little tuck mans face. it said that this little guy was on death row and he needed a temporary place to stay. that was all it took, i mean who am i to deny this little seven pound fur ball? i have a warm house, i like to cuddle, puppy kisses make me smile? why not pass on lifes simplest blessings to a little man who wasn’t half as lucky? so, that next tuesday i drove an hour to pick him up and welcome him into our home and our hearts…

well, needless to say he stole our hearts and this little lover weaseled his way into our bed on night one. i know, i know, so predictable eh? you knew this would happen, right? well i was determined to prove all of you wrong. to find him a sweet little home and to give him infinite kisses for as long as he was with us. but chloe, well, she had another plan. after a little reluctance (she takes after her father) she started to warm up to the little man. he respected her space, her food dish, her bed, and slowly but surely he won her over. they started spending their days playing together and sleeping in between wrestling matches. she would give him kisses to clean him and the food dish quickly became a shared domain. tucker watched chloe and picked up on all of her tricks. he started leaping at the treat door and would patiently wait for her to eat before taking his share.

after a short little vet visit to check up on the pups we learned that tucker was likely blind in one eye from a previous trauma. although you couldn’t tell from first look, one eye was a little cloudy. the vet believes he was abused and that was enough to make me cry all day. he is such a little lover, a man who just wants to cuddle and kiss you and be oh so loyal. seven pounds of pure joy that was never given a fair shot at a life he could enjoy. we had to make a decision and we needed more time. after just a week we couldn’t imagine not coming home to the two of them and knew chloe would be devastated if her little companion was gone. okay, i know, i know… you saw this coming. i can honestly say i went into fostering with every intention to end up with one dog, but seriously, our family of four is complete. we couldn’t be happier to welcome little tucker james into our lives so that we can love him forever.

even if i failed miserably as a foster mom, i promise, i am one heck of a pup mom. i apologize for the million and one images of my fur babies, but since i don’t want real babies anytime soon, you will have to suffer through. as we enter the amazing holiday season, think of the things you can do to give back to those less fortunate. stop focusing on things you think you need and start giving thanks for the things you have. we are so grateful that we were able to take in another pup, to give him the love he truly deserves.

This literally made me cry Jenna. I LOVE the love you have for animals and can’t wait until I can start adopting my own “fur babies”. Thank you for all you do.
