assignment: photo safari
here is part II of the jasmine star reSTARt assignment, we were to take our own photos of things we are drawn to… colors, textures, moods, feelings. i spent a morning in the comfort of my home pulling elements that i love and that inspire the heck out of me, then i went through a tiny bit of my portfolio pulling images that match my brand words: romantic, authentic, natural. here is what i came up with…

as many of you know, i am a branding girl. i fully believe in the effectiveness of running a consistently branded business and have spent the last few months ensuring my presence is all cohesive. i can thank countless lectures next to drew for this passion. i seriously could analyze brands all day and love every minute, i can just hear drew sigh when he brings home new bottles of wine and i start to critique the label and font… thankfully, my education was so worthwhile when it came to giving this business a face. when i started a little over a year ago i teamed up with a lovely graphic designer : eva black. she had me send her a mood board and a little more about me, i dug up my original email to eva telling her what i wanted my brand to emulate, although at the time i had no clue what would become, this email holds the key to the start of my branding…
” i just enjoy simple, but beautiful. i think i am secretly an old soul, i love antique florals and prints. i just love the rustic but beauty behind it. it is simple but simply gorgeous… one of a kind, structured but not confined.”
i have to say, i could throw in the words unshowered, eclectic, and reckless abandon into the mix but it really rings true. when i looked at what inspired me in my home it was a mixture of old and new, a reinvention, it was muted colors but romantic touches… compiling them together made me see the big picture and the blend of richness and romantic, holy cow. i know there are certain things i wish i would have done differently from the start but one thing i am happy about is how i started a branded business from the beginning and since then the brand has grown. so, did i hit the nail on the head? was my safari successful even though i didn’t see rhinos and giraffes? i think it was a pretty great exercise and pushed me to look beyond pinterest boards and into the simple things that inspire my life.
