The other day, I was tagged in a post. I don’t get notifications on my phone, I try as hard as worldly possible to limit my social media usage and so I missed it. It was announced that, friends, we’ve done it again! Wisconsin Bride Magazine released their list of finalists and I am so proud to be nominated in the top three for Top Wedding Photographer (for the third year in a row) and also nominated for the Best Overall Wedding Vendor (for the second year in a row!) What does this mean? It means that this proud supporter of messy hair and yoga pants is in the top three once again. Y’all rallied around me to show the world that one single girl under the age of 30 can make things happen. You guys, to me this affirms so much of what I do. It tells me that I have successfully surrounded myself with friends, family, clients, and fans that believe in dream chasing, the stand behind telling real love stories, that understand that quality matters, and that wedding photography is more than just beautiful imagery, it’s an experience. This past year I’ve: launched a print shop, started a marketing course, photographed 30 incredible weddings, contributed to Jillian Harris‘ blog, was inducted into the hall of fame on The Knot, won the best photographer award from Wisconsin bride, snuggled my hunky husband, travelled all over the USA, fostered puppies, and told countless stories of love.

Truthfully? I am humbled. At the age of 27 I am on a three-peat with this award. Just four years into my business and I have the support of so many people who are constantly cheering me on and watching me chase the dream list. As I sat in my bed, yoga pants on, hair in a bun, makeup and bra no where in sight, I realized that this little business of mine, it is making waves. It doesn’t have be glamorous to be good, progress is more important than perfection, and those are statements I’ve clung to day in and day out of the hustle. So what now? There will be an awards ceremony in July where we celebrate the winner of each category. I plan to wear something pretty, curl my hair, and maybe even wear high heels (gasp!) I hope to celebrate with my family, drink some bubbly, and really take a step back to recognize that I have designed the life of my dreams. It’s easy to get caught up in the daily hustle, it’s enticing to forget what’s happening now and get caught up in the future, but my challenge to myself is to soak this up, to thank you, dear friends, and to really remember where I was and where I am. If my story can inspire you to look at your life and find what makes you happy, if my journey can show you that chasing happiness over fame or money can work, if my life can be an example of someone who is drive to make a difference, then every single (unglamorous) day is worth it in its entirety.

This three peat? It’s proof that I am not a one trick pony, that I am more of a fine wine (yum, wine) that gets better with age, and that wedding photography is so much more than just photographs. This season I will photograph my 100th wedding and that figure makes my head spin. Each and every couple who has entrusted me to tell their story has filled a void in my heart that can only be filled by them, each wedding holds moments that tug at my heart strings every day, each story is one that proves that love conquers all. Thank you, thank you, thank you will never be enough. Thank you for voting for me, thank you for believing in me, and thank you for reminding me that I have successful surrounded myself with dreamers. There is no greater feeling than to envision each and everyone of you around me reminding me to keep chasing, to keep dreaming, and to keep impacting the industry. I pray that this will be the year I take home the tiara, that this year the trophy will be mine (and yours!) Until that celebration, I will challenge myself to acknowledge the progress over perfection, to sleep in an extra ten minutes, to buy myself a new pair of yoga pants to celebrate, and to add extra cheese to my mac and cheese – because you really only live once! Until the results, just know I love you. Now, let’s take home that tiara, what do you say?

What an inspiring attitude and story – everyone who is thinking about “what they would do if they weren’t afraid” should read your letter. I wish you good luck!!
