Truth be told, if I could make a living doing birth photography and living on that crazy on call schedule, I would. Why? Because it is truly a gift to capture once in a lifetime moments. You know how everyone talks about how your life changes when you have a kid? Yea, I get a front row seat to those inspiring moments and get to create timeless images that will forever bring people back to those moments when their lives changed. I used to dream of being a surgeon, I grew up in a family filled with nurses, I have a heart (and stomach) for solid medicine so birth photography brings it all home for me. Birth photography can be a total game changer, not only does it capture once in a lifetime moments, it frees you up to enjoy the experience without the need to feel you should be documenting it. This time, it was my nephew, Cameron Dale who was born. I was so honored when Kyle and Amanda told me they wanted some images to remember such a special day in all of our lives because not only did I get to be a piece of welcoming my second nephew into the world, I got to see first hand how lives change when a baby enters the world. (Don’t worry, I got baby fever for about two minutes and then remembered that I had three dogs waiting for me at home and quickly recalled the fact that I am so not ready for a cute little bundle of joy, yet.)
First things first, my sister-in-law Amanda is amazing. Without a doubt, she is strong and incredible and I am just in awe of how awesome she did throughout the whole birth. Second, my brother-in-law, Kyle, is such an incredible support. He provided comedic relief, support, and the perfect amount of quiet and cheering for his wife. Watching their team work was super cool, because holy crap, a lot goes into birthing a baby. Cameron is absolutely perfect and it was hard to not get teary eyed meeting him for the first time. I wish more people would consider birth photography for so many reasons but watching the day unfold through photos says enough. It is beautiful, raw, emotional, exhausting, inspiring, and life changing. It is a day with ups and downs, excitement and frustration, and joy, abundant joy. It is a day that you are reminded how every little baby is fearfully and wonderfully made and perfect in every way. It is a time when you are remind how truly incredible the human body is and how strong every woman is who has ever birthed a child. It is a tear jerker seeing a dad look at his child for the first time and having his breath taken away. It was a day that I am so thankful to have been a part of. Cameron Dale, you are loved! Auntie Jenna can’t wait to spoil you and smother you in kisses, you are perfect in every single way and I am so happy I was able to meet you the day you were born.
