Kat and I began chatting over social media sometime in the past year. Both women who have creative minds and a heart for empowering women, we instantly clicked and through strings of emails we have collaborated a bit the past few months! I adore the mission behind The Refined Woman and when Kat asked if I wanted to add my creative voice and watercolor designs to an event she was planning, I was totally on board. Kat has been a part of New York Fashion Week for 14 seasons and while she loves the experience filled with beautiful runway shows, parties, and oodles of good fashion, she often felt drained and exhausted when the event wound down. She created a vision to create an event for a group of talented and influential women in the Fashion Industry team up, eat delicious food, and have dialogue around the definition of beauty, community, creativity, and dream chasing (all while celebrating femininity!) Along came The Very Refined Brunch and a beautiful collaboration was born to inspire!

The Refined Woman was looking for sponsors and help in hosting the event and I happily jumped on board as a designer and artist for them! (I still don’t consider myself a designer or an artist, so that last sentence was harder to write than one may think.) Large partners like Darling magazine helped sponsor the event! (Eeek!) I was commissioned to create a bunch of different watercolor pieces that gave definitions to beauty. Beauty is: freedom, limitless, authenticity, fearless… the list goes on and while I painted each piece from the invites to the wall hangings, I thought about how cool it is to be connected to people who are setting out to change the world, the ones who are chasing dreams, changing lives, and influencing people to do the same. All yesterday my feed was full of people sharing images from the brunch and and it seriously made my heart smile to see such a community surrounding around a such an awesome cause! Next year, my goal is to be at this brunch in New York to help inspire change, celebrate fashion, and hug my sweet internet friends!
