It all started over nachos and a margarita (isn’t that how all epic stories start?) I was with a fellow photographer and we were talking shop, you know, the good, bad, and ugly. She was telling me how she was on the hunt for a new job and updating her resume for the first time in years because photography just wasn’t paying the bills for her. My heart broke at that bar… here she was, this incredibly gifted photographer, and she was ready to throw in the towel because she just couldn’t cut herself paychecks she was proud of (or even just ones that would pay the rent.)
The next day I was thinking and wondering what I had done differently… here I was, making six figures in my third year of business. Before you think I had connections or had been a photographer since the age of three, let me set the stage: I was working a full time job, I lived in a tiny village of 2,700 people (and a lot of cows), I had bought a camera of Craigslist for $300, and I knew I wanted to make it into something so I could leave that windowless corporate office.
