It was a few weeks ago when I saw Andy’s status saying that he needed a couple that was married or dating for a small project he was working on. I kindly offered our coupledom for him and let him know if he needed us, we could help out. (Special thanks to my husband who might be the best sport ever in moments where I offer our couple serves out.) Little did I know we would get to take part in a Beloved session with the wonderful Andy Stenz and take part in something that was far beyond a photo session. The cool thing about beloved sessions is there are way more than just posing and looking pretty in front of a camera (let’s be honest, I am the most awkward human in front of the lens and I typically hate the way I look in photographs.) Andy made this session a time of reflection for us and encouraged us to go to the places where we reached beyond the wedded bliss and entered into the love that holds us together…
From remembering our dating days to reciting our wedding vows, thinking about the reasons we are proud of one another to campaigning to love one another for eternity, we were all in! We don’t have a perfect marriage, things aren’t always butterflies and unicorns but we are real, raw and authentically together and that’s what makes me value the couples I work with. Marriage is an amazing union, one where you get to wake up next to someone who promised to accept you (faults and all) and I think that is something to celebrate. We have always loved the verse, “I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine.” It was a perfect reminder of our union, of being present with the person whose hand is holding yours and being in the moment. Here are a few of the images of our session. So fun!
Thank you to Andy Stenz Photography for making us cherish the moments with our beloved!
So lovely! And Andy seems like a genuinely nice person online. I’ve been hoping to meet him (and you!) since I moved to Janesville earlier this year!
Thanks for all the kind comments you two. And I too look forward to meeting you Amber!
Great work, Andy! I’m a long time follower of your work… and recently interested in shooting “Beloved” sessions myself, more to give my clients an amazing experience beyond regular portraiture. I knew I should have responded to that FB post! 😉
