IT’S FRIDAY- which means it’s time for a pep talk! If you clicked on this link and hopped to this post, I really like you, because you never back down from a challenge (or a double dare!) The truth is? I was just making sure you are awesome. You passed with flying colors!
Chances are, you have a lot to get done today before the weekend comes. Am I right? Friday means a to-do list a mile long that you maybe made on Monday but you feel like you didn’t get anywhere with the. Perhaps the desire to spend the morning in bed is fierce, you’re craving a gallon of coffee (and donuts) and a million things (like the Olympics!) are pulling your attention away from getting it all done. I get it, I’m with you!
I knew I was leaving today for a week long redez vous with Drew, so I knew that I had to get stuff done (and work ahead!) This week, when I saw that list, I set myself up for success. Instead of working on the couch, I set up shop in my sunny office. I got some lavender diffusing, a La Croix chilled, a hot coffee, dog beds set in the sunlight, and I shut off my WIFI!
Did you just gasp? I seriously put my phone in airplane mode and shut off my wifi, because girlfriend is like a dog chasing squirrels every time she sees a notification or hears the ding of a new email. You with me?
The best part? I set a timer and timed myself on every task I had to accomplish to get from that top of that list to the total bottom so that I could utterly enjoy vacation without feeling guilt or feeling like I left work at home. The crazy thing was, when I really set up my time efficiently and removed distractions, things that usually took me all day took me under 3 hours to complete. Whoa!
There are a lot of things in our lives and businesses that we know we could do better. We get lazy, we get comfortable, and even though we know we should change we don’t. Our businesses become these vicious cycles that take over and instead of running them, they run us.
So today, I challenge you this: do something you’ve been meaning to do. That thing on your list that never gets crossed off and intentionally buried, the one that is burdening you, the one that carries over week by week, just get it done. The time you spend dreading it is probably more than the time it will take you to just complete the dang thing.
Set aside ONE hour to shut off your wifi, turn your phone off, and get it done. You’ll be shocked at what undistracted work time can do for you! There is nothing better than making your business feel right.
It’s time we show our businesses who is boss!
Keep not settling, my friends.
This is why we cull and edit images immediately after a session. I’m still excited from the session and have my favorites fresh in my mind. My fiance then edits them right after and we can usually finish them the same day. It’s so nice not having sessions hanging over your head!
